Scores missing in new shipwreck off Libya
Rome – Dozens of migrants were missing on Friday after an overloaded fishing boat sank off the coast of Libya, the third major tragedy in the Mediterranean in as many days, Italian rescuers said. Italian coastguards sent in rescue ships after a call for help that spoke of 350 people in the water, while the Italian navy said it had saved 130 people and was searching for others.
The coastguard, which co-ordinates rescue operations in the area, was not able to give further information immediately.
This is the third major accident involving migrants this week, with authorities estimating that more than 10 000 migrants have been rescued near the Libyan coast.
Emergency services also said they had received distress signals from more than 15 vessels on Friday.

Un nuovo drammatico naufragio a 35 miglia dalle coste libiche. La nave Vega della Marina Militare sta recuperando i sopravvissuti e le salme di chi non ce l’ha fatta. Sarebbero 135 i migranti salvati, 45 i corpi recuperati. Ma secondo le testimonianze dei sopravvissuti almeno altri 200 mancherebbero all’appello. Insomma, vi sarebbero 200 morti. È il terzo barcone che si è rovesciato in tre giorni. Nel primo naufragio 91 sono stati messi in salvo dalla Guardia Costiera e anche in questo caso secondo i superstiti mancherebbero all’appello un centinaio di migranti.
L’esodo continua
Sembra inarrestabile. Al quinto giorno le stesse scene si ripetono. Da stamani all’alba fino alle 10.30 la sala operativa della Guardia costiera ha coordinato le operazioni di salvataggio di 17 gommoni e un peschereccio carichi di migranti. Se si rispettano i dati di ieri, anche stasera arriveremo a 4.000 arrivi. Quasi quindicimila in cinque giorni.
Sta diventando un problema, il picco di flusso così imponente. Soprattutto per la necessità di procedere alla identificazione dei migranti nei quattro hotspot funzionanti, tre in Sicilia e uno a Taranto.
