Seit den Kämpfen entlang der libyschen Küste steigt die Zahl von Migranten, die die gefährliche Reise über das Mittelmeer von Tunesien aus antreten.

Während der Flüchtlingsansturm aus Libyen seit Juli deutlich nachgelassen hat, steigt in Italien die Zahl der Ankünfte von Tunesiern. 1.800 meist junge Männer sind in den vergangenen drei Tagen auf Lampedusa und in Sizilien angekommen und wurden in den überfüllten Aufnahmelagern untergebracht.

Obwohl Tunesier kaum Chancen auf einen legalen Aufenthaltsstatus in Italien haben, sind in den sozialen Medien immer mehr virtuelle Reisebüros entstanden, die die Organisation der gesamten Reise von tunesischen Provinzstädten bis zu Kontaktleuten in Italien anbieten. In Häfen wie Teboulba südlich von Monastir, Zarzis nahe der Grenze zu Libyen oder der Inselgruppe Kerkena gibt es lange Wartlisten von Reisewilligen. Das berichten Fischer, die auf ihren Booten regelmäßig Migranten transportieren.

In einer gemeinsamen Erklärung forderten die Seenotrettungsorganisationen Jugend Rettet, Mission Lifeline, Sea-Watch und SOS Méditerranée am Montag von der künftigen Bundesregierung ein staatlich organisiertes, ziviles Seenotrettungsprogramm auf dem Mittelmeer. In dem Papier heißt es:

Wir sind seit 2015 auf dem Mittelmeer aktiv, wo wir Menschen in Seenot vor dem Ertrinken retten. Ohne unseren Einsatz, den wir als Bekenntnis zu den internationalen Menschenrechts- und Flüchtlingskonventionen sehen – die auch Deutschland ratifiziert hat –, würden weitaus mehr Menschen vor den Toren Europas sterben.

Wir fordern die künftige deutsche Bundesregierung daher auf, sich in der kommenden Wahlperiode entschieden gegen Menschenrechtsverletzungen im Kontext der Flucht über das Mittelmeer einzusetzen und sich hinter die lebensrettende Arbeit der zivilen Seenotretter zu stellen. Die Militarisierung und Abschottung von Europas Grenzen steht in eklatantem Gegensatz zur internationalen Schutzverantwortung der EU-Mitgliedsstaaten gegenüber Flüchtenden.

Un centenar de inmigrantes asiáticos han iniciado hoy en Ceuta una huelga de hambre ante la sede de la Delegación del Gobierno en señal de protesta por su situación en la ciudad, donde algunos llevan casi un año.

Los inmigrantes asiáticos, todos ellos varones de entre 20 y 35 años en su mayoría, proceden de países como Bangladesh, Pakistán, Sri Lanka y la India y han afirmado que han comenzado esta huelga de hambre indefinida para reclamar viajar a la península, como ocurre cada semana con los inmigrantes subsaharianos.

Más de 600 ciudadanos nigerianos que entraron en Argelia de forma irregular han comenzado a ser trasladados a la provincia meridional de Tamanraset para ser expulsados a su país, informó hoy la agencia oficial APS.

Según la fuente, los nigerianos fueron embarcados en la provincia costera de Tizi Ouzu en 17 autobuses que cruzarán el país de norte a sur escoltados y acompañados por treinta trabajadores de la Media Luna argelina y dos ambulancias.

Fuerzas armadas tunecinas impidieron en las últimas horas la salida de una embarcación precaria con 51 personas que trataban de viajar de forma ilegal a Europa y detuvo al cabecilla de una presunta red mafiosa de tráfico de personas, informó hoy el Ministerio de Interior.

En un comunicado, el departamento explicó que los inmigrantes, todos ellos tunecinos con edades comprendidas entre los 18 y los 35 años, se disponían a salir de una playa próxima a la ciudad meridional de Sfax, capital económica del país.

sevilla- Cerca de 400 inmigrantes han llegado a bordo de una veintena de pateras a las costas españolas durante este fin de semana, la mayoría de ellos a Andalucía, aunque también a Ceuta, Melilla y Mallorca. La llegada más dramática se ha producido esta mañana en Melilla, donde la Guardia Civil ha recuperado el cadáver de un subsahariano que flotaba en el mar cerca del dique sur de la ciudad, donde fueron rescatados del agua otros 17 inmigrantes, ha informado la Delegación del Gobierno. – D.N.

International humanitarian group Save the Children said on Monday it had suspended migrant rescues in the Mediterranean Sea as departures from Libya slow and security conditions worsen.

Save the Children has operated a ship, the Vos Hestia, since September last year, rescuing more than 10,000 migrants from dangerous and overcrowded boats launched by people smugglers.

“For too long we have been the substitution for the inexistent and inadequate European policies for search and rescue and for hosting migrants,” Save the Children Director General Valerio Neri said in a statement.

Following calls by civil society organisations in Ghat on Algeria to open the border and send aid to the town, a highly-respected Algerian Tuareg leader has visited the area and backed their demands.

Ibrahim Goma today first met officials and elders on the Algerian side of the border in the town of Djanet to determine the needs of Ghat. He then crossed the border at Tin El Koum to discuss reopening it with Tuareg leaders in Ghat. Apart from asking for Algerian aid, locals in the mainly Tuareg town have particularly called on the Algerian authorities to allow the sick to be treated in Algerian hospitals.

After being on the road with his wife and six children for more than a year since they left eastern Syria, Ali was living in the Subotica transit camp in northern Serbia. They had managed to cross the mountains and the sea, but they had got stuck in Serbia because of the closure of the route north.

Ali and his family had applied for asylum in Hungary and after waiting for six months, they were finally selected to cross the border.

A report entitled ‘‘Out of Africa. Why people migrate’’ by ISPI, the Italian Institute for International Political Studies, says that European representation of African migration by media and politicians is ‘‘politicized’’ and ‘‘alarmist’’. This has led to ‘‘increasingly more restrictive migration policies’’.

The 170-page report published last week says that the EU and its member states have failed to look below the surface of migration flows as they have repeatedly preferred to turn a blind eye to their root causes.

Contrary to popular perceptions, the report suggests that the size and destinations of African migration are similar to global migratory patterns and that African migrants are more likely to move to neighbouring countries within their African sub-region than elsewhere, because of the higher costs of moving over longer distances. The study concludes that in fact there is a larger than popularly perceived number of sub-Saharan countries each hosting over two million displaced people last year.
