Seit den späten Abendstunden des 03.05.2016 senden 430 Boat-people vor Westlibyen SOS Signale. Die italienische und maltesische Küstenwache liefen in der Nacht trotz mehrfacher Aufforderung nicht zur Rettung aus. Sie verwiesen auf schlechtes Wetter und darauf, dass keine Marine-Schiffe in der Umgebung seien.
Tatsächlich sind am 03.05.2016 italienische Marineschiffe ausgelaufen, um vor der libyschen Küste das Schiff zu bergen, das im April 2015 700 bis 800 Bootsflüchtlinge beim Untergang in den Tod riss. Die Washington Post weist auf verbesserte Wetterbedingungen hin.
Ausserdem ist das Meeresgebiet vor der westlibyschen Küste die Todeszone, in der am meisten Boat-people umkommen. EUNAVFOR Med ist dort präsenter als in jeder anderen Meeresregion, und die italienische Marine ebenfalls: In Meeresregion befinden sich die libyschen Ölplattformen, die italienische Unternehmen bewirtschaften.

Italian navy to resume recovery of boat full of migrant dead

ROME — Improved sea conditions are permitting the Italian navy to resume a complex operation to recover a sunken fishing boat with the bodies of hundreds of migrants inside.
Navy vessels are set to head Wednesday to the site of the April 2015 shipwreck, in which the immense loss of life spurred Europe to step up patrols of the Mediterranean, where Libyan-based smugglers launch overcrowded boats on risky voyages toward Italy’s shores.

The boat is located 85 miles (130 kilometers) from the Libyan coastline and sank 370 meters (1,200 feet) after it capsized just as a cargo ship was coming to the migrants’ rescue.
Italian Premier Matteo Renzi has vowed Italy will do everything possible to retrieve the bodies and try to identify them. Navy divers over several months already recovered 169 bodies found near the wreckage.
The navy said Tuesday a 30-meter (100-foot) -long barge will be used to bring the wreck to a port in Sicily once it is raised with the help of a specially designed robotic apparatus. Firefighters will then enter the wreck in the port to retrieve the bodies.
Survivors said as many as 800 people were trapped inside.
Forensic experts will examine the corpses, in hopes that a Europe-wide network of information will lead to identification, the navy said. […]

La marina della Spezia recupera un barcone con i corpi di 700 miranti
E’ partito dalla Spezia il team della Marina Militare che provvederà al recupero del barcone, con i corpi di 700 migranti, affondato a oltre 350 metri di profondità nel canale di Sicilia
La Spezia – É iniziata la fase operativa del recupero del barcone con 700 migranti morti al suo interno, ad oltre 350 metri di profondità nel canale di Sicilia. Si tratta di uno dei più imponenti recuperi di corpi in mare mai avvenuto in epoca recente.Le operazioni sono condotte da un team della marina militare partito dalla Spezia e diretto dall’ammiraglio comandante del Varignano. La nave che sarà a capo della missione è sempre della Marina: si tratta di nave Anteo salpata dalla Spezia; per l’occasione è stata organizzata una missione con più navi, con decine di enti civili e militari.

Il barcone sarà recuperato integro dal fondo, grazie a dei robot, portato a terra da una chiatta e poi in una speciale struttura costruita per l’occasione. Saranno recuperate le salme che saranno poi posizionate in una grande tensostruttura che funzionerà da cella frigo. Intanto a Siracusa è pronto un reparto di vigili del fuoco equipaggiato con tute speciali per recuperare i resti dei migranti morti.
