Crises and conflicts that arise in Africa are discussed in many medias in the convenient explanation of ‘ethnic’ confrontation or as the translation of greed and power struggles between local leaders. This « reductive » reading is partly a reflection of academic currents favoring a deterministic approach of African realities and overstating economic or identity based conflicts.

„Migrants risking lives in Mediterranean topped 45,000 in 2013
Italy – Over 45,000 migrants risked their lives in the Mediterranean to reach Italy and Malta in 2013. The arrivals are the highest since 2008, with the exception of 2011 – the year of the Libyan crisis. More than 42,900 landed in Italy and 2,800 landed in Malta.

El Pentágono inauguró precipitadamente hace un año, cerca de Niamey (Níger), la primera base drones del norte de África que operan unos 300 militares. Los aviones no tripulados MQ-1 Predator estadounidenses fueron, a veces, los ojos del Ejército francés que en enero de 2013 desencadenó una ofensiva militar para desalojar a Al Qaeda y sus secuaces del norte de Malí, del que se habían adueñado en la primavera de 2012.
