Die Polizei in Tschechien und in Bayern melden Erfolge im Kampf gegen die Schlepperkriminalität. In beiden Fällen wurden auch Flüchtlinge aus Fahrzeugen befreit. Derweil scheinen Migranten zunehmend Flugrouten zu nutzen.

In Tschechien nahm die Polizei nach eigenen Angaben drei mutmaßliche Schleuser aus der Türkei fest, die versucht haben sollen, 22 Flüchtlinge aus Syrien, dem Irak und der Türkei in einem Lieferwagen nach Deutschland zu bringen. Das Fahrzeug war nach Angaben der Behörden am Stadtrand von Prag aufgebracht worden. Unter den entdeckten Flüchtlingen seien vier Kinder und eine hochschwangere Frau gewesen, die nun ärztlich behandelt würden.

Depuis 2014, l’armée française utilise des drones Reaper pour assurer des missions de renseignement et de surveillance. Sur la base aérienne de Niamey, au Niger, ces appareils ont «révolutionné les opérations» contre les jihadistes.

Sous la bâche rouge du hangar, ils occupent toute la place, avec leur envergure de 20 mètres. Plutôt près du sol – même si la pointe arrière atteint la barre des 4 mètres de haut – et très allongés, les drones Reaper de l’armée de l’air française ressemblent presque à des planeurs, si ce n’est l’hélice arrière qui les propulse. Deux ici, et trois autres un peu plus loin, sous de drôles de constructions fongiformes : ils sont là, sur la base de Niamey au Niger, au centre de ce que l’armée appelle «la bande sahélo-saharienne». Soit le théâtre de l’opération «Barkhane», le plus important déploiement actuel de l’armée française, avec près de 4 000 militaires pour un territoire grand comme cinq fois la France, afin de lutter contre les groupes jihadistes.

With warmer weather on the horizon, the European Union is weighing more ways to prevent migrants from reaching its shores but remains deeply divided over how to share responsibility for those entitled to stay.

EU interior ministers on Thursday discussed steps to strengthen the bloc’s external borders, while Germany and Austria pushed to prolong ID checks and better control the migrant movement inside Europe’s passport-free travel area.

Arrivals have dropped significantly since more than one million unauthorized migrants entered Europe in 2015, but spring is expected to see more arrivals, and the ministers are keenly aware of the impact migration played in Italy during weekend elections won by two Eurosceptic parties.

Migrants rescued at sea under an EU naval military operation will have their information expedited to the EU’s police agency Europol.

The plan is part of a pilot project set for launch in the coming weeks, marking a further shift towards the blurring of lines between law enforcement and the military.

EU interior ministers in Brussels on Thursday (8 March) „expressed support for the principle“ of the project amid broader questions of the legal implications of shuffling data collected by the navy directly to the police.

Kabul/Islamabad/Wien – Friedensgespräche mit den Taliban sollen in Afghanistan ein erster Schritt in Richtung Stabilität im Land sein. Anfang März lud der afghanische Präsident die islamistische Miliz zu Verhandlungen „ohne jegliche Vorbedingungen“. Die Vertreter der afghanischen Taliban sind noch eine offizielle Antwort schuldig, doch bereits diese Woche begrüßten die USA den Vorstoß. Aus dem US-Außenministerium heißt es, dass die Taliban „berechtigte Beschwerden“ über die Regierungsarbeit in Kabul in Sachen Korruption und Misswirtschaft vorzubringen hätten.

La Commission interministérielle ad-hoc de régularisation des réfugiés, hébergée au Bureau des réfugiés et des apatrides (BRA) à Rabat, est pour l’heure suspendue.

La situation au niveau du Bureau des réfugiés et des apatrides (BRA) à Rabat est toujours en suspens. Depuis mars 2017, les audiences n’ont plus lieu. Par conséquent, plusieurs centaines de personnes reconnues comme réfugiées par le Haut-Commissariat des Nations unies pour les réfugiés (HCR) se retrouvent bloquées, sans possibilité d’obtenir le précieux sésame : la carte de séjour.

«La suspension des auditions du BRA depuis un an pose problème, cela empêche les réfugiés d’obtenir une carte de séjour. Cette situation est particulièrement problématique pour l’accès à l’emploi salarié. Sans carte de séjour, il n’y a pas de possibilité d’avoir un emploi salarié dans le secteur formel», déclare à Yabiladi Jean-Paul Cavalieri, représentant au Maroc du HCR.

As EU-Turkey Anniversary Nears, Move Asylum Seekers to Mainland Safety

(Athens) – Thousands of asylum seekers are trapped on the Aegean islands in deplorable conditions and without access to adequate protection and basic services, nine human rights and humanitarian organizations said today as part of the #OpenTheIslands campaign. The Greek government should act immediately to end the “containment policy” that traps asylum seekers in these conditions on the islands and move them to safety on the mainland.

As the two-year anniversary of the EU-Turkey deal nears on March 18, 2018, more than 13,000 men, women, and children are trapped on the islands, according to Greek government figures.

Repeated reports by GCR beneficiaries on systematic pushbacks in the Evros region

Complaints and reports of illegal pushbacks of refugees in Evros have been consistent and increasing in numbers. According to them, persons in need of international protection, asylum seekers and recognized refugees, having crossed the Greek border through Evros, are arrested on Greek soil, detained and led to the border, accompanied by the police, wherefrom they are being pushed back to Turkey.

The Greek Council for Refugees (GCR) has repeatedly received relevant complaints, some of which are published today, which show an established procedure on the part of the authorities, while handling populations of third-country nationals who attempt irregular entry into the country. The way and the conditions under which these pushbacks take place add further to the arbitrary and contrary to the national and international law practice. The most disconcerting issue, however, is that, lately, the relevant reported cases seem to increase and become more systematic.

Report on illegal Pushbacks

According to the data of the Ministry of the Internal Affairs (MUP), in 2017 1,887 people, mostly from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Syria, and Turkey, applied for international protection. Out of that number, 211 people received international protection, and 311 were returned from another EU Member State country based on the Dublin Decree. At present, there are about 430 people in the reception centers for asylum seekers.

On Wednesday last week the Welcome Initiative! And organizations: Center for Peace Studies, Are you Syrious?, and No-name Kitchen presented their fourth report on the illegal and violent expulsion of refugees from Croatia. They have warned that, given the frequency and patterns of police behavior, we cannot characterize it as isolated and sporadic cases of illegal expulsion as well as of benign „deterrence.“ Police behavior, by all means, represents planned and systematic measures of deprivation of liberty without a legal basis, the denial of access to international protection and violation of the non-refoulement principles. They also stressed that the UNHCR Serbia in 2017 recorded 3242 cases of unlawful expulsion of refugees from Croatia, where many refugees claim that they were denied access to international protection and are routinely abused.

CAIRO (AP) — Germany deported a group of Egyptians to Cairo over violations of residency requirements, including those whose asylum requests were rejected, Egyptian airport officials said Thursday.

The Egyptians say that 100 of their countrymen were sent home, nine of whom had been held in custody and were delivered without passports. Germany’s Interior Ministry however only acknowledged nine deportations. The discrepancy between the two figures could not immediately be reconciled, although the larger number would constitute the first action of such magnitude toward Egypt from Berlin.
