Government authorities and aid agencies in Tunisia say they are prepared for a sudden additional flood of refugees from Libya despite growing public hostility to the influx ahead of presidential elections.

A crisis plan drafted by a working group of Tunisian regional and central authorities, local civil society organizations, UN agencies and international NGOs aims to ensure space for refugees in the event of the security situation deteriorating rapidly.

In Medenine Governorate, which borders Libya, the local authority has reserved 14,500 spots for potential refugees in indoor halls, youth hostels, and hotels. Similar measures are to be taken in Tatooine Governorate, which could also be affected.

UNHCR warns of winter crisis for almost 1 million displaced Iraqis and Syrians

GENEVA, November 11 (UNHCR) – The UN refugee agency on Tuesday warned that a US$58.45 million funding shortfall, coupled with this year’s sharp recent growth in internal displacement, could leave up to 1 million Syrians and Iraqis without proper help as winter approaches.

„The shortfall affects our winter preparedness programmes, although we have already invested US$154 million on winter aid for Syrian and Iraqi refugees and internally displaced, and means that UNHCR is having to make some very tough choices over who to prioritize,“ chief spokesperson Melissa Fleming said in Geneva.

„Factors we are considering include the elevation of refugee settlements, the composition of the family unit (e.g. number of children and female-headed households), family health concerns, new arrivals, available family resources, shelter conditions and other considerations. For those we’re unable to prioritize, the conditions could nonetheless be very tough,“ she added.

El Comité de Derechos Humanos de Naciones Unidas pide a España que de explicaciones sobre la devolución sumaria de inmigrantes en Ceuta y Melilla, la muerte de 15 personas frente a la playa ceutí de El Tarajal, la violencia policial en la represión de los saltos en las vallas fronterizas y las denuncias de malos tratos a inmigrantes en los Centros de Internamiento de Extranjeros (CIE), entre otras cuestiones.

Así lo recoge el listado del Comité al que ha tenido acceso Europa Press, un documento que enumera las cuestiones sobre las que España deberá informar a la ONU de cara al VI Examen Periódico del cumplimiento del Pacto Internacional de Derechos Civiles y Políticos que tendrá lugar en junio o julio de 2015 en Ginebra. El Gobierno deberá ahora responder por escrito.

Centre for Political Beauty says it took white crosses to highlight hypocrisy of fortifying borders while celebrating fall of another

For the past 10 years, 14 white crosses in the heart of Berlin have marked the lives of those who died trying to cross from east to west. Over the weekend, they disappeared, replaced with empty black metal frames and a note: “There’s no thinking going on here.”

On Monday, the crosses resurfaced, not in Germany but on walls and fences that mark the very outer edges of Europe, in Greece, Bulgaria and Melilla, on the north African coast. A performance art group called the Centre for Political Beauty claimed to have organised the stunt.

Einen Fischtrawler rüstete das maltesische Unternehmerpaar aus eigener Tasche zur Hilfsstation für Schiffbrüchige aus (MOAS, Migrant Offshore Aid Station).

UNHCR concerned over ending of rescue operation in the Mediterranean

This is a summary of what was said by UNHCR spokesperson William Spindler – to whom quoted text may be attributed – at the press briefing, on 17 October 2014, at the Palais des Nations in Geneva.

UNHCR is concerned over the announcement of the ending this month of the Italian operation Mare Nostrum without a similar European search and rescue operation to replace it. This will undoubtedly increase the risk for those trying to find safety in Europe, and could lead to more refugees and migrants perishing at sea. It is estimated that 3343 people have lost their lives this year while making such journeys, 2755 of them since the start of July.

Auffanglager für Flüchtlinge in Nordafrika?

Neuer Vorstoß von Bundesinnenminister Thomas de Maizière zur Auslagerung des Flüchtlingsschutzes

Bundesinnenminister Thomas de Maizière hat im Morgenmagazin des ZDF heute erläutert, dass „Willkommens- und Ausreisezentren“ außerhalb Europas eingerichtet werden sollen.

Die italienische Seenotrettungsmission „Mare Nostrum“, bei der mehr als 150.000 Menschenleben gerettet wurden, wird hingegen beendet.

„Was wir eigentlich brauchen – das haben wir auch mit den Innenministern besprochen – wir müssen in den Transitländern möglicherweise so etwas wie Willkommens- und Ausreisezentren machen. Der UNHCR, das Weltflüchtlingswerk der UNO könnte sie betreiben, um dann zu entscheiden, wer geht zurück und wer kommt nach Europa“, so der Bundesinnenminister.

52 de migranți irakieni, sirieni și ascunși într-un tir care transporta varză au fost descoperiți, marți dimineața,de polițiștii de frontieră de la PTF Bechet. Tirul transporta legume din Bulgaria către Germania.

Potrivit Poliției de Frontieră, în data de 11.11.2014, ora 07.20, la Punctul de Trecere a Frontierei Bechet, județul Dolj, s-a prezentat pentru a intra în țară, la volanul unui autocamion Renault Magnum, cetateanul cipriot Panaziotis C., în varsta de 47 de ani, care transporta, conform documentelor de însoțire a mărfii, varză, din Bulgaria pentru Germania.
