The Migrants‘ Files project was launched in August 2013 by a group of European journalists who joined forces to accurately calculate and report the deaths of emigrants seeking refuge in Europe. This pan-European consortium of journalists is partially funded by the European non-profit organization Journalismfund.eu.

4.2. Joint return operations coordinated by FRONTEX
As part of operational cooperation measures between Member States, States increasingly used joint flights for removal. In this context, the FRONTEX agency played an important role as a vehicle for promoting joint return operations. Between 2006 and December 2013, FRONTEX coordinated 209 Joint Return Operations (JROs) returning 10 855 people. 11 Since 2007, FRONTEX has provided standardised training for return officers focusing on safeguarding returnees’ fundamental rights and dignity during forced return operations.12 Since Article 8(6) of the Return Directive on forced return monitoring became binding in 2010, half of all JROs have been the subject of monitoring by independent monitors who were physically present from the start of the operation until arrival at the airport of destination. To date, these monitors have not reported any violation of returnees’ fundamental rights.

Las imágenes de lo ocurrido en Ceuta el pasado 6 de febrero y los días posteriores nos atrapan y absorben. Son tan brutales que se hace difícil pensar más allá de ellas. Y, sin embargo, es absolutamente necesario hacerlo, si queremos entender lo que está pasando allí y en toda la frontera sur de Europa.

EU and Tunisia establish their Mobility Partnership
Tunisia and the EU today formally established a Mobility Partnership. A joint declaration was signed by Cecilia Malmström, EU Commissioner for Home Affairs, Mr Tahar Cherif, Tunisian Ambassador to Belgium and the European Union, and the Ministers of the ten EU Member States involved in the Partnership: Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Spain, France, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Sweden and the United Kingdom.

Le Niger cherche 300 millions d’euros pour lutter contre crise alimentaire et accuellir réfugiés
NIAMEY, Niger – Le Niger et ses partenaires ont demandé vendredi 300 millions d’euros à la communauté internationale pour 2014 afin de lutter contre les pénuries alimentaires et la malnutrition, et gérer le flot massif de réfugiés issus de pays voisins en crise.

Plus de 40 000 clandestins africains ont migré en Libye via le nord nigérien en 2013, indique mardi l’ONU, alors que la Libye demeure une importante plate-forme migratoire vers l’Europe.
«La police d’Agadez (nord du Niger) évalue à 40 350 dont 21 132 Nigériens et 19 218 étrangers, le nombre de personnes ayant pris la route vers la Libye et qui sont passées par un poste de contrôle», souligne le bulletin humanitaire du Bureau de la coordination des affaires humanitaires (Ocha) à Niamey.
