El director de Médicos Sin Fronteras, MSF, en España, Daniel Noguera, ha rogado esta mañana en València que todos los migrantes que llegarán mañana en tres barcos, entre estos el Aquarius, puedan acogerse al estatus de refugiados. “Esta gente viene de un país, Libia, en el que han sufrido mucho y de vivir situaciones muy peligrosas, todos deben tener derecho a pedir asilo”. Noguera ha mostrado su esperanza en que este episodio del Aquarius suponga un giro radical de la política europea “para parar este escenario mediterráneo de mortalidad”.

Die israelische Regierung hat die geplante Abschiebung tausender afrikanischer Einwanderer gestoppt. Der Grund ist offenbar nicht die internationale Kritik an dem Vorhaben – sondern das Fehlen von Aufnahmeländern.

Bei einer Sitzung des Höchsten Gerichts Israels haben Vertreter des Staates mitgeteilt, man werde keine neuen Abschiebebescheide an afrikanische Flüchtlinge verteilen. Dies berichteten israelische Medien. Bereits verteilte Bescheide seien annulliert. Es sei gegenwärtig nicht möglich, Flüchtlinge gegen ihren Willen in Drittländer abzuschieben.

Zu Tausenden hatten sie sich auf dem zentralen Rabin-Platz in Tel Aviv versammelt – aus Protest gegen das Vorhaben der israelischen Regierung, afrikanische Einwanderer rigoros in ein Drittland auszufliegen.

„Ein Mensch ist ein Mensch, es gibt keinen Unterschied zwischen Blut und Blut“, skandierte die Menge in Tel Aviv. Nach Medienberichten waren etwa 25.000 Menschen zur Kundgebung gekommen, darunter auch viele afrikanische Migranten, um gegen die geplante Abschiebung der Flüchtlinge zu protestieren.

Die israelische Regierung hatte Anfang des Jahres ihre Pläne konkretisiert, mit denen afrikanische Einwanderer, die teilweise schon seit Jahren illegal im Land leben, zur Ausreise gezwungen werden sollen. Bis zu 40.000 Flüchtlinge, vornehmlich aus Eritrea und dem Sudan, sollen in ein afrikanisches Drittland abgeschoben werden.

Holot will shut down after four years; 480 detainees to be released with geographic restrictions on where they can live and work

Holot, an open air detention center where Israel housed illegal migrants largely from Eritrea and Sudan, will close its gates at 11:59 p.m. on Monday, the Population Immigration and Border Authority announced.

The closure is part of the government’s plan to deport thousands of African asylum seekers who entered Israel illegally.

Holot opened on December 12, 2013, following a number of government decisions aimed at reducing the concentration of asylum seekers in cities. The vast majority of migrants live in south Tel Aviv.

Al Jazeera speaks to Eritreans in Israel who are facing a tough decision: deportation or imprisonment.

In January 2018, Israel approved a plan that asked asylum seekers to choose between indefinite detention in an Israeli prison or deportation to a third country in Africa.

Rwanda and Uganda are reported to be the countries accepting those deported from Israel, despite denials from both governments.

According to the scheme, asylum seekers will be given a plane ticket and up to $3,500 for leaving, however, many are choosing to stay in Israel, rather than risk returning to Africa.

Many of the asylum seekers come from war-ravaged Eritrea and Sudan, however, Israel does not recognise the majority as refugees, claiming that they are economic migrants or „illegal infiltrators“.

TEL AVIV dpa | Rund 20.000 Menschen haben am Samstagabend in Tel Aviv gegen die geplante Abschiebung afrikanischer Flüchtlinge aus Israel demonstriert. Afrikanische Migranten und Israelis hätten sich gemeinsam an dem Protest beteiligt, berichteten israelische Medien.

Die israelische Regierung hat angekündigt, bis zu 40.000 Flüchtlinge aus Eritrea und dem Sudan in afrikanische Drittländer abzuschieben. Nach Medienberichten handelt es sich dabei um Uganda und Ruanda. Regierungen beider Länder bestreiten entsprechende Vereinbarungen.

JERUSALEM (AFP) – Hundreds of African migrants launched a hunger strike to protest Israel’s implementation of its controversial policy to expel or indefinitely imprison them, a spokesman for the group said Wednesday.

Israel has resolved to expel thousands of Eritreans and Sudanese who entered illegally over the years, giving them an ultimatum to leave or risk being imprisoned indefinitely.

As the migrants could face danger or imprisonment if returned to their homelands, Israel is offering to relocate them to an unnamed third country, which the migrants and aid workers say is Rwanda or Uganda.

Eritrean and Sudanese asylum-seekers face indefinite imprisonment if they do not leave within 60 days

Israeli authorities have begun distributing deportation notices to thousands of African refugees and migrants, who have been threatened with jail if they do not leave the country.

In letters delivered on Sunday, the government told asylum-seekers they had 60 days to leave for an unnamed African country in exchange for $3,500 (£2,500) and a plane ticket.

Those who remain by 1 April face indefinite imprisonment under plans which have prompted outrage and protests in Israel.

JERUSALEM (AP) — A government plan to deport tens of thousands of African migrants has sparked an unexpected backlash from liberal Israelis and their American Jewish allies who say Israel — established in the wake of the Holocaust — should never be turning away those in need.

The showdown could come to a head on April 1, when the state plans to start expelling Africans, some of whom have been in Israel for years and have children who know no other home, to an uncertain fate.
