The Migrants‘ Files project was launched in August 2013 by a group of European journalists who joined forces to accurately calculate and report the deaths of emigrants seeking refuge in Europe. This pan-European consortium of journalists is partially funded by the European non-profit organization Journalismfund.eu.

Analysis by European Parliament DG for External Policies
The EP’s Directorate-General for External Policies just released an Analysis, “Mediterranean flows into Europe: Migration and the EU’s foreign policy,” in which it reviews the EU’s external policies and instruments relating to migration in the Mediterranean, including the Mediterranean Task Force established after 3 October 2013 tragedy at Lampedusa in which over 350 people died.The Analysis describes the serious shortcomings of the security-driven approach that has been taken by the EU.

Le CADTM Afrique organise ce week-end sa première université à Hammamet en Tunisie. Après avoir été le pays hôte du Forum Social Mondial il y a un an, la Tunisie accueille cette fois l’université du CADTM Afrique. Des citoyens sont venus des quatre coins d’Afrique – Burkina Faso, Togo, Bénin, Cameroun, République démocratique du Congo, Mali, Niger, Sénégal, Maroc et Tunisie – pour échanger sur la dette et différentes thématiques comme les ressources naturelles, l’audit et les dettes coloniales.

On wednesday the protesting refugees have been evicted and arrested again. The police tried to blackmail them: they should sign not to approach the EU delegation office again, otherwise they keep imprisoned. But the group refused to sign and afterwards they were split up by police into two or three persons and were brought to different far areas to destroy the collective.

„We are rejected asylum seekers, abandoned in Choucha camp since 2011. We demand durable solution.“
Thats the text on a banner in front of the building of the EU-delegation in Tunis (see the picture below).
The action of the refugee-group with about 15 persons started as permanent protest in February 2014, but after one week all of them have been arrested and put into detention. No reason was given to them for this arrest, for 4 weeks the refugees were kept imprisoned and afterwards transported back against their will to Choucha in a bus escorted by police.
Il y’en a des choses qui se trament dans le sud tunisien, et qui sont en train d’être passées sous silence par… tout le monde. Il faut reconnaitre que le citoyen tunisien en a marre de tout ce qu’il entend, de tout ce qu’il voit, de tout ce qu’il découvre de jour en jour, de façon, à ce que maintenant, il soit devenu inerte, résolu, défaitiste, sans aucune réaction.
Il n’empêche que ce qui est en train de se tisser dans le sud tunisien, et plus précisément, dans les gouvernorats de Tataouine et de Médenine, est d’une gravité extrême. Et qui mérite, pour le moins, qu’on en parle.

On 3 March, Tunisia and the European Union signed a ‘mobility partnership’.
Over the last two years, the signatory organizations have repeatedly expressed their concerns about this partnership. We hereby reiterate them and condemn the lack of transparency in the negotiation process which did not involve civil society actors, many of whom have been active on issues directly relevant to the agreement. The implementation of such agreement is particularly worrying in the current Tunisian transitional context where key institutions and legislative instruments needed to guarantee the respect of the rights of migrants, refugees and asylum seekers are still lacking.

Action collective
L’Union Européenne et la Tunisie ont signé, lundi 3 mars 2014, un accord de lutte contre l’immigration clandestine, en échange d’une promesse de simplification des visas et d’ouverture à l’immigration régulière. L’UE s’est engagée à favoriser une meilleure intégration des ressortissants tunisiens en situation régulière dans l’UE, ainsi que des migrants en situation régulière en Tunisie.
