Libya: migrants held in terrible conditions, ICRC reports

Overcrowded centers with no sanitation, scabies in Al-Hambra

(ANSAmed) – Libya is holding thousands of migrants in deplorable conditions without adequate sanitation, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) reported Tuesday. The temporary closure of many holding centers in the southern part of the country have led to severe overcrowding in western Libya’s Al-Hamra detention center, which has become a hub for migrants arriving from Mali, Niger, Eritrea and Somalia.

Scabies have broken out there due to poor hygienic conditions and overcrowding, the ICRC reported.

Libya’s Berber minority will boycott a committee to draft a new national constitution, the election commission said, in a move that complicate attempts to end oil and gas protests which have dented output.

Members of the Berber, or Amazigh, minority have halted gas exports to Italy and also stopped part of Libyan oil exports by occupying the Mellitah port in western Libya to demand more rights for their long-oppressed people.

Marruecos detiene a 80 inmigrantes en redadas realizadas en Tánger y Castillejos en los dos últimos días

La policía marroquí ha detenido a ochenta inmigrantes, supuestamente de origen subsahariano en el norte de Marruecos durante   los  dos  últimos  días, cuando trataban de embarcar en dos pateras hacia España. Los  inmigrantes  fueron detenidos en varios puntos del litoral entre Tánger y Castillejos en posesión de dos lanchas neumáticas y medios de navegación, informó ayer la Wilaya (gobierno civil de Tánger). La misma fuente añadió que 22 de estos inmigrantes se entregaron voluntariamente a los servicios de seguridad.

Libya Protesters Shut Down Another Oil Refinery

Scores of Libyan protesters on Wednesday shut down an oil refinery in the country’s east to demand jobs they claim were promised for 1,000 people, a state-owned oil company official said.

The closure is the latest disruption to hit the country’s troubled economy in recent months, after militias seized a series of oil and gas terminals, severely cutting production and sapping much-needed state revenue. The protesters blocked entrances to the offices of The Arabian Gulf Oil company, a branch of the state-owned National Oil Corporation, in the eastern port city of Tobruk, the official said. They also blocked a road intersection leading to the refinery and forced the administration to halt production of fuel and natural gas destined for local consumption, he added.

Les corps de quatre migrants en situation irrégulière, dont un est originaire de la wilaya de Tiaret ont été rapatriés, ce lundi, après avoir perdu la vie, dans des circonstances qui restent à déterminer, a-t-on appris de source sécuritaire. En effet, selon des informations recueillies auprès de la famille de la victime, un jeune homme de 24ans, habitant la localité de Dahmouni, les quatre migrants algériens seraient morts par hypothermie dans une foret près du village de Lesovo, près des frontières méridionales de la Bulgarie. Une autre victime est originaire de la wilaya de Chlef, alors que les corps des deux autres Algériens décédés sont en cours d’identification selon le consulat d’Algérie à Sofia. La police des frontières arrête, régulièrement, des clandestins à la frontière bulgaro-turque dont des ressortissants algériens.

En septembre dernier, la police des frontières et les agents du dispositif européen de lutte contre l’immigration clandestine «Frontex» avaient annoncé détenir sept présumés Algériens sans documents d’identité près du village de Lesovo.

Am 23. Oktober 2013 haben wir einige syrische Flüchtlinge (A., M., H.) getroffen, die uns berichtet haben, dass sie nach Italien auf dem Boot gereist sind, das am 11. Oktober 2013 in der maltesischen Rettungszone [SAR] untergegangen ist. Wir haben sie gefragt, ob sie ein Video-Interview machen wollen und dazu bereit sind, wenn wir sie dabei unerkennbar zeigen würden. Denn sie haben Angst vor Vergeltungsaktionen gegenüber ihren Familienangehörigen und Freunden, die in Libyen und Syrien geblieben sind. Wir haben sie dann am Tag danach getroffen und diese Aufnahme gemacht. Wir haben sie anschliessend geschnitten und in die Erzählung von „Said“, einem Pseudonym, andere Bilder und im Internet erhältliche passende Informationen eingefügt.
