Auf dem Höhepunkt der Flüchtlingskrise war die Landroute über Ostgriechenland nahezu unbezwingbar. Inzwischen haben sich die Fluchtrouten verlagert.

Die Aprilzahlen haben die griechischen Behörden aufgeschreckt: Innerhalb von vier Wochen überquerten 2900 Migranten von der türkischen Seite her den Grenzfluss Evros. Der monatliche Durchschnitt von 2017 war vier Fünftel tiefer. Damit transportierten die Schlepper laut dem Uno-Hochkommissariat für Flüchtlinge (UNHCR) mehr Menschen über den Landweg in das EU-Land als über die Ägäis. Migrationsminister Dimitris Vitsas bezeichnete den Trend als alarmierend, zumal der Druck auf der Meeresroute ebenfalls zugenommen hat.

Berlin und Kairo bauen ihre »Migrationskooperation« aus, im Sinne der EU. Kritik kommt von links

Die Bundesregierung intensiviert ihre bilaterale »migrationspolitische Kooperation« mit Ägypten. Damit baut sie das nordafrikanische Land weiter als Vorposten des Grenzabschottungsregimes der Europäischen Union im Mittelmeerraum auf. Das geht aus der am 27. August 2017 in Berlin unterzeichneten und bisher unveröffentlichten Vereinbarung zwischen den beiden Ländern zur Umsetzung des ägyptisch-deutschen Migrationsdialogs hervor sowie der Antwort der Bundesregierung auf eine Kleine Anfrage des Bundestagsabgeordneten der Fraktion Die Linke, Andrej Hunko. Beide Dokumente liegen junge Welt exklusiv vor.

Während der Rahmen der bilateralen »migrationspolitischen Kooperation« zwischen der Bundesregierung und dem autoritären Militärregime unter Ägyptens Präsident Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi bereits bekannt ist, finden sich in beiden Dokumenten neue Details zu der Zusammenarbeit.

Die libysche Küstenwache hat ein Schiff der Hilfsorganisationen SOS Mediterranee und Ärzte ohne Grenzen daran gehindert, Flüchtlinge von einem überfüllten Schlauchboot zu retten.

(afp) Die libysche Küstenwache hat am Sonntag ein von Hilfsorganisationen gechartertes Schiff an einer Rettungsaktion für in Seenot geratene Bootsflüchtlinge gehindert. Dies berichtete ein AFP-Fotograf an Bord der «Aquarius». Wie der Journalist berichtete, war das Schiff von der italienischen Küstenwache über ein überfülltes Boot vor der libyschen Küste informiert worden. Auch die libysche Küstenwache war informiert worden.

Onio Reina recuerda como si fuera ayer el momento en el que pisó por primera vez la arena de las playas de Lesbos. Era diciembre de 2015 y este bombero sevillano acababa de llegar a la isla junto a otros tres compañeros tras un largo trayecto en coche desde España. Uno de los vecinos les hizo señales pidiendo ayuda: había dos embarcaciones repletas de gente acercándose a la orilla. Ellos acudieron, aunque ni siquiera llevaban encima el material de rescate que habían traído para colaborar como voluntarios en las tareas de salvamento de refugiados.

Years earlier, the bureaucrat had been a key architect of America’s policies towards boat-borne asylum seekers seeking protection in the US, and it was this experience Australia wished to mine.

President Trump has attracted criticism with his nominee to head the United Nations‘ migrant relief organization, Ken Isaacs, as reporters have uncovered tweets by Isaacs expressing anti-Muslim views and support of conspiracy theories.

Who is Ken Isaacs?

Ken Isaacs is a vice president at Shepherd’s Purse, a Christian non-profit relief organization. He previously served as director of foreign disaster assistance for the US Agency for International Development during the George W. Bush administration. In February, Trump picked him to lead the UN’s Office of International Migration, which oversees $1 billion in migrant aid worldwide.

We stand in solidarity with the five rescuers who face a court case on Lesvos, Greece, tomorrow. They have been saving lives at sea and for this, they are facing charges of human trafficking with high prison sentences, instead of being honoured for the tremendous work they have done.

They appear before the court on Monday 7th of May, in Mytilene, Lesvos, and the proceedings will conclude on Wednesday. Accused are three fire-fighters from Spain, of the organisation Proem-Aid, also Salam Aldeen, and another person from Team Humanity. All of them arrived in Lesvos in late 2015 to do sea rescue, a time when arrivals were at there highest, and they were arrested on the 14th of January 2016 after returning from a search-mission at sea. Salam Aldeen, one of the accused, has been prevented from leaving Greece for many months and during this time has continued his support for those who suffer from the EU-borders on the shore. The boat of Team Humanity remained confiscated.
