This is a video made on 24 Dec 2016 in the olive grove next to Moria refugee camp – an action made by No Border Kitchen Lesvos and supported by Lesvos Social Kitchen. The video is made with permissions from everyone in it.

This place was occupied last year for a few months by a many refugees, independent groups, activists and volunteers. It was known as Better Days for Moria and included a small 24-hour hospital, a mosque, a 24-hour tea-tent, a children’s creche, an information tent and many people sleeping there and living there briefly.

In April, all were evicted and the space is left empty. Still the ‚Safe passage/Welcome‘ sign stays there. NBK pitched a tent for a day and refugees cooked 7000 chapatis and activists and refugees cooked huge amounts of lentil stew/dhal. Moving Pictures mobile cinema came and set up a sound system and there was much merriment, sharing of food, conversations and dancing.

For a few hours we took back this space and people enjoyed a party together. The song used in this video is a Pakistani song recommended by one of the chapati chefs for the video – it’s called Pardesi which means ‚foreigner‘.
