I migranti sono un pretesto per militarizzare lo spazio del Sahel. In effetti, da tempo immemore, questa area di raccordo col deserto del Sahara è stata un luogo di scambi commerciali e di migrazioni umane. Fino ai nostri giorni l’Africa occidentale è tra le zone del mondo a più alta percentuale di mobilità umana. La maggior parte degli spostamenti si realizza peraltro all’interno dell’area citata. Una minima parte dei migranti si avventura verso il nord Africa e una parte ancora più ridotta cerca di transitare in Europa.

La guerra contro i migranti non è cominciata oggi. Uno sguardo anche superficiale ai vari Summit dell’Unione europea hanno giustificato e accompagnato le politiche di controllo ed esternalizzazione delle dinamiche migratorie. In questa operazione si è precisata una strategia mercantile che prevedeva impegni da ambo i lati del Mediterraneo.

La police soudanaise a fait usage samedi de gaz lacrymogènes contre des étudiants qui manifestaient contre l’envolée des prix du pain dans le centre du pays, ont rapporté des témoins, alors que les partis d’opposition avaient appelé à des manifestations anti-gouvernementales.

Les prix du pain ont quasiment doublé vendredi au Soudan en raison de l’augmentation des prix par les producteurs de farine après la décision du gouvernement d’arrêter les importations de céréales et de permettre à des sociétés privées de le faire. «Vous citoyens, réclamez vos droits !», scandaient les étudiants dans la ville de Sennar (centre), rejoints par des dizaines d’habitants lors d’une marche contre la hausse des prix du pain, ont raconté des témoins.

Ce tout dernier afflux est le plus important mouvement de réfugiés centrafricains, il excède le nombre total d’arrivants au Tchad pour toute l’année 2017, qui s’élève à environ 2000. Beaucoup signalent des violations des droits humains commises par des membres de ces groupes armés dans des villages situés le long de la frontière entre la République centrafricaine et le Tchad.

TUNIS taz | Die nigerianische Regierung will ihre in Libyen gestrandeten Staatsbürger zurückholen. Am Samstag kündigte Außenminister Geoffrey Onyema in Tripolis an: „Unser Präsident hat alle nötigen Maßnahmen getroffen, um alle Nigerianer aus Libyen in ihre Heimat zu bringen.“ Das sagte Onyma auf einer Pressekonferenz mit seinem libyschen Kollegen Mohammed Taha Zialla. Begleitet wurde der Außenminister von einer Delegation der Nationalen Notstandagentur NEMA, die nach Besuchen in westlibyschen Gefängnissen 5.037 Nigerianer identifizieren konnte.

Israel will das umstrittene Flüchtlingslager Holot schließen – aber nicht aus Mitgefühl mit den Insassen. Sondern um noch härter gegen sie vorzugehen. Die Afrikaner sollen in Drittstaaten abgeschoben werden, notfalls mit Gewalt.

Mitten in der Negev-Wüste, im Südwesten Israels, liegt das Lager Holot. Hinter stacheldrahtbewehrten Gitterzäunen leben mehr als tausend afrikanische Flüchtlinge. Besucher dürfen das Lager nicht betreten. Aber die Bewohner haben Bilder gepostet aus seinem Inneren. Sie zeigen kahle Räume mit nackten Neonröhren an der Decke und unappetitliche, bisweilen ekelige Essensrationen. Die Zimmer werden grundsätzlich mit zehn Mann belegt, freie Räume zugesperrt. Arbeiten dürfen die Bewohner nur im Camp. Für sechs Stunden erhalten sie 20 Schekel, das sind nicht einmal fünf Euro.

AGADEZ, Niger – Issa Tahir and his friends, who all worked in one way or another in the people-smuggling business, kill time and hide from the relentless high-noon heat in a darkened room in the bowels of the town hall of Agadez in northern Niger.

While they wait on Rhissa Felthou, the Saharan city’s mayor, Tahir flips anxiously through the pages of a long dossier he hopes will open up new horizons for them. “If everything’s in order,” Tahir says, “we’ll be recognized soon as an official association and then we’ll really be able to start working.”Half an hour later, and with evident satisfaction, they are on their way to another municipal office for the next step in the paper chase. Tahir’s brainchild, the Association for the Reconversion of Actors of the Migration Economy, or ARAEM, is closer to becoming a reality.

BRUSSELS — In an era of closing borders, European leaders are increasingly willing to go to extreme lengths to deport people. But a Belgian effort to partner with the Sudanese government has backfired after two men alleged they were tortured after being sent home, and the top Belgian migration official involved is now facing pressure to resign.

The Sudanese citizens’ expulsions highlight new measures that might once have been seen as politically toxic. The men were repatriated after being identified by a delegation of Sudanese officials who had been invited to Belgium to screen migrants accused of being in the country illegally and to authorize the deportation of people from Sudan. Migrant advocates condemned the collaboration with Sudan, whose president, Omar al-Bashir, has been accused of war crimes and genocide.

Les gamins crient, une femme abandonne ses casseroles et s’enfuit loin de ce carrefour commerçant bondé, un homme se réfugie derrière un réfrigérateur. Le convoi de la gendarmerie qui traverse la petite ville de Kidira, bordant la frontière malienne, dans l’est du Sénégal, vient d’être attaqué. Le temps que les gendarmes abasourdis sortent de leurs véhicules arme au poing, les assaillants encagoulés sont déjà loin. A bord du pick-up blanc que le convoi escortait, cinq représentants de l’Organisation internationale pour les migrations (OIM) ont été tués.

MAKURDI taz | Charity Wilfried hat einen starren, durchdringenden Blick. Sie sitzt auf einer wackeligen Holzbank im Schatten eines großen Baumes. Manchmal schaut sie zu ihrem kleinen Wohnhaus herüber. Es ist eins von sechs Häusern, die gemeinsam ein kleines Gehöft bilden.

Ab und zu dringt der Lärm eines Autos herüber, das auf dem Weg nach Anyiin ist, die nächste Kleinstadt, knapp zehn Kilometer entfernt. Dort ist immer freitags Markttag. Vor allem lange, erdige Yamswurzeln liegen auf großen Haufen zusammen.

The European Union is working with Libyan coastguards to reduce the number of migrants crossing the Mediterranean Sea. But many of those intercepted end up in detention centres in Libya, where some migrants say they are used as slaves, as the BBC’s Stephanie Hegarty found when she spoke to some Nigerians who have just returned home.

As evening falls on Benin City, outside the mildewed 1960s block of one of the city’s many hotels, a group of men and women are sitting on a scattering of plastic chairs, under a sign advertising „exotic cocktails“ and „groovy nights“.

But they are not here for drinks or dancing, they are about to start the hard work of rebuilding their lives.
