Onze candidats à l’émigration clandestine ont été interceptés, avant-hier, à 23h, à 10 km, au nord de la plage de Ouillis, dans la wilaya de Mostaganem, par les forces navales de la façade maritime ouest. Les garde-côtes étaient en patrouille lorsqu’ils ont repéré l’embarcation pneumatique. Aussitôt, l’information diffusée, une vedette des garde-côtes est mobilisée pour ramener à terre les ‘harraga‘. Ces derniers ont été conduits au port de Mostaganem et une enquête ouverte par les services compétents. Depuis le début de l’année, quelque 761 candidats à l’émigration clandestine ont été interceptés à l’ouest du pays précisément au large d’Oran, Mostaganem et Ain Témouchent, selon un bilan des services des garde-côtes.

Ces chiffres sont en hausse comparativement à 2015 où 328 migrants ont été interceptés. Profitant de conditions météorologiques favorables, les candidats à l’émigration clandestine prennent tous les risques pour rallier l’autre rive de la Méditerranée.

Im Oktober war die Bundeskanzlerin in Mali und Mitte Dezember kam der niederländische Außenminister zu Besuch. Beide sprachen mit hohen Repräsentanten der Regierung von Mali. Beide redeten mit ihnen über Migration und über die Rücknahme malischer Staatsbürger, die sich illegal in Europa, vor allem in Frankreich und Deutschland, aufhalten.

Il terrorismo che colpisce nel mucchio è difficile da combattere. Ma scoprire una cellula attiva tra popolazioni insediate da tempo in Europa (base indispensabile per ogni attività terroristica) è molto più difficile che individuare un terrorista imboscato tra un gruppo di profughi. Soprattutto se alla loro registrazione all’arrivo – o alla partenza con corridoi umanitari – corrispondesse il diritto a una libera circolazione in tutta Europa.

Am Ende des Abends sitzen wir zusammen vor dem Computer und schauen uns die alten Fotos vom Schwimmkurs an. Nevena* kämpft sich, eingepfercht zwischen zwei aufgeblasene Schwimmnudeln, die Bahn hinunter. Lamija albert am Beckenrand herum. Amisa hat das Belohnungseis nach der Anstrengung gleichmäßig im Gesicht verteilt.

„Das war der Willkommenssommer. Die Idee, dass es egal ist, wo jemand herkommt – in diesem Sommer hat sie funktioniert“, meint Maria. Jeden Tag hat sie damals, vor anderthalb Jahren, 20 Kinder aus einem Berliner Flüchtlingsheim zum Hallenbad begleitet, damit sie dort schwimmen lernen und das Seepferdchen machen können. „Ich werde nie vergessen, wie wir durch die Straßen gegangen sind und alle gemeinsam gesungen haben, mal ein serbisches Lied, mal ein arabisches. Die Leute haben geguckt!“

“My daughter calls me uncle and does not want to speak to me any longer”, says Ahmed and struggles to hold back his tears. The Syrian has been separated from his wife and two-year-old daughter for a year and two months. By now, the daughter does not even know anymore that Ahmed is her father, that she even has a father. Although Ahmed is now safe in Germany, waiting for his family and the estrangement of his little daughter who still waits with her mother in Greece for the realisation of family reunification, distresses him.

Ten-year old Tasnim came to Germany a year ago with her uncle. Her mother Amani is also still in Greece. They escaped the Syrian war together but when crossing over from Turkey to Greece, they lost one another. While it would only take a few hours on a plane, they cannot reunite. The separation pains them and they can hardly bear this state of uncertainty, not knowing when they will see each other again.

Our presidency will take place during a very interesting and challenging juncture for the EU, a juncture that none of us was expecting even a year ago. Our priorities had to be transformed to respond better to these particular challenges we are facing.

About 100 people are missing and feared dead after two boats capsized off Italy, increasing the estimated death toll among migrants in the Mediterranean this year to at least 5,000, a record, UN agencies have said.

Deaths linked to Mediterranean crossings by migrants trying to reach Europe have spiked in 2016. Last year, 3,771 deaths were recorded as more than a million people made the journey, mostly from Turkey to Greece. This year, about 360,000 people have crossed, most between Libya and Italy, with far more deadly results.

Dort, wo die Schüsse ihn getroffen haben, sind Edouards Schulter und Arm noch verbunden. Als er seine Familie im Nordwesten des Landes besuchte, habe ihn der burundische Geheimdienst festnehmen wollen – ohne einen Grund zu nennen, erzählt Edouard, der in Wirklichkeit anders heißt. „Als ich aus dem Haus kam, hat der Mann auf mich geschossen.“ Er sei ohnmächtig zu Boden gefallen, der Schütze habe ihn für tot gehalten und zurückgelassen. „Die Anwohner haben mich dann ins Krankenhaus gebracht.“ Danach habe er beschlossen, zu fliehen.

The border policy of the Hungarian government has been successful in closing the border to most people seeking international protection. As a result, refugee camps and detention centers in Hungary are relatively empty and the media frenzy has subsided. The report of the Hungarian Helsinki Committee, however, shows that the number of people stopped from entering the country in irregular ways has increased since the beginning of the year. At the same time, the number of asylum requests has shrunk significantly since July when the 8 km law was introduced. This, of course, has consequences for activists and volunteers, who now operate in an environment where it is increasingly difficult to have direct contact with people seeking protection. This increases the vulnerability of people, because there is less information on which activists and volunteers can act. First and foremost, however, this has consequences in Serbia, where more and more people are getting stranded.
