  • BBC Arabic, RAI News und somalische „Social Media“ melden, dass vier Flüchtlingsboote zwischen Libyen und Italien untergegangen sind und nur 29 Boat-people gerettet wurden. Der somalische Botschafter in Ägypten berichtet, dass bei diesen jüngsten Schiffskatastrophen über 400 Menschen ertrunken sind.
  • Auf den Flüchtlingsbooten aus Libyen befinden sich in der Regel 120-130 Personen pro Boot. In den somalischen „Social Media“ zirkulieren im Moment Namenslisten der Ertrunkenen.
  • Die EU schlägt der libyschen „dritten Regierung“, die als Territorium nur eine libysche Marinebasis vor Tripolis hat, die Ausweitung der EU-Militäroperation EUNAVFOR vor. EUNAVFOR überwacht bereits jetzt mit größtem High Tech Aufwand die Abfahrt und die Wege der Flüchtlingsboote, die vor allem aus Westlibyen Richtung Italien ablegen.

Tragedia nel Mediterraneo, affondano barconi con 400 migranti a bordo diretti in Italia. Secondo Bbc Arabic soltanto 29 persone sarebbero state tratte in salvo. I migranti, a bordo di 4 imbarcazioni, provenivano da Somalia ed Etiopia. –  18 aprile 2016 – Centinaia di migranti sarebbero annegati nel Mediterraneo: provenivano da Somalia ed Etiopia e viaggiavano su 4 barconi affondati nel tentativo di raggiungere l’Italia. I media somali riferiscono che i mezzi di soccorso sono stati finora in grado di mettere in salvo 29 persone. L’ambasciatore somalo in Egitto, sentito da Bbc Arabic, ha detto che si teme che oltre 400 persone siano morte nel naufragio.

More than 400 migrants drown in Mediterranean

Dozens of African migrants have reportedly drowned after a boat carrying 400 people capsized in the Mediterranean Sea, says Daily Mail. 

Most of the 400 migrants aboard the boat were fleeing from Somalia, Ethiopia and Eritrea and had been hoping to reach Italy.

Somali media reports say that rescue workers have only managed to save 29 passengers from the waters after the shocking incident.

Over 400 migrants are thought to have drowned, the Somali ambassador in Egypt told BBC Arabic.

Social media users have claimed that the boat had started its journey in Egypt with Italy being its intended destination, a route favoured by many smugglers.

Photographs of a handwritten list of victims names have been uploaded on to social media by several Somali speaking users.
