Greek authorities reported that about 200 refugees and migrants reached the shores of the eastern Aegean island of Lesvos from 3 a.m. to 6 a.m. early on Friday.

The majority of those who reached Lesvos were reportedly Africans who had been residing at closed camps in northwestern Turkey. Reports suggested the refugees and migrants left the camps after Turkish authorities abandoned the premises.

According to Greek state news agency ANA-MPA, thousands of Africans who had reached coastal Turkey recently were looking into ways to crossing to Greece.

The news agency had recently reported that a Turkish human trafficking ring operating from Istanbul was allegedly charging 300 to 500 euros per person for passage to Greece, where refugees and migrants were told to „just ask for asylum.“
