This is the new Amnesty International report entitled „Refugees in Turkey: when Europe closes its eyes“, about EU-Turkey negotiations. AI denounces European countries that ask Turkey to be a borderguard of Europe whereas Turkey violates rights of refugees.

AI raises awareness on the fact that the 3 billion € that the EU will give to Turkey is only to ‚protect Syrians‘ and not other nationalities. Non-Syrian refugees have to apply individually for protection and receive responses years after their application had been issued. In November 2015 the UNHCR reported that 170,000 Afghans crossed the Aegean Sea to reach Greek coasts.

EU does not respect the rules concerning the protection of refugees.

Turkey detains arbitrarily refugees and ill-treatments are reported in detention centres. It deports people back to Syria and Iraq despite the risks of being persecuted there.

To AI opinion, the EU should not fund detention centres where rights of people are violated and it should open legal ways to the European territory.
