Una embarcación, tipo patera, con siete inmigrantes subsaharianos, ha sido rescatada a primeras horas de la mañana de hoy en aguas del Estrecho después de que uno de los ocupantes de la embarcación alertara a Salvamento Marítimo sobre su situación.

L’ultima tragedia al largo delle coste libiche fa ulteriormente aumentare il numero di morti nel Mediterraneo
Una madre siriana e i suoi due figli (di tre e i sei anni) sono tra le ultime persone ad aver perso la vita nel tentativo di attraversare il Mediterraneo dalla Libia.
Lunedì 7 luglio la guardia costiera libica ha informato l’Alto Commissariato delle Nazioni Unite per i Rifugiati (UNHCR) di aver recuperato 12 corpi da una barca che aveva subito un incidente, avvenuto probabilmente domenica 6 luglio. Tra le vittime si contano tre siriani, tre cittadini eritrei e altri sei africani di nazionalità ancora da determinare. Si ritiene che l’imbarcazione, che aveva una capienza di circa 200 persone e che però probabilmente ne portava molte di più, si sia capovolta al largo delle coste di Tripoli. Le operazioni di ricerca e soccorso sono ancora in corso e la sorte delle altre persone che potevano essere a bordo della nave è tuttora sconosciuta.

Not much has been said about the Ministerial Conference held in Rome on the 6th of March 2014, where foreign ministers, high level delegations from Libya and representatives from international organisations gathered to discuss the current situation of Libya. At the forefront of the Conference there were the economic ties between Libya and its partners, the necessity to defend them by disarming paramilitary groups, the patrolling of borders and the subsequent issue of illegal migration.

Yesterday afternoon a ‘memorandum of understanding’ was signed between the Ministry of Home and National Security, in the Maltese Governments’ name and the Ministry of Libyan Home in the Libyan Governments’ name. The signing of this memorandum happened between Minister Mallia and the Libyan Minister Saaleh M. Abdurraheem Maaziq.

Il mare di Lampedusa
In attesa dello sbarco a Pozzallo dei quasi seicento migranti recuperati dalla nave della marina militare Grecale, con a rimorchio il peschereccio con le trenta vittime per asfissia, arriva l’esecuzione di nove fermi e la notifica di cinque informazioni di garanzia per la strage di Lampedusa dello scorso tre ottobre, quando a perdere la vita in mare furono 366 migranti. Intanto gli arrivi sulle coste italiane dall’inizio dell’anno hanno toccato quota 65mila e se da un lato l’operazione Mare nostrum è riuscita ad evitare tragedie con tali entità di vittime, dall’altro ci si interroga su come questa emorragia demografica dovuta soprattutto ai conflitti possa essere in qualche modo arrestata.
