Beim Kentern zweier Flüchtlingsboote vor der libyschen Küste sind möglicherweise mehrere hundert Menschen ums Leben gekommen.

Wie der britische Sender BBC unter Berufung auf Augenzeugen berichtet, wurden mindestens hundert Tote in ein Krankenhaus westlich von Tripolis gebracht. Die Küstenwache suche weiter nach Überlebenden. Nach den bisher vorliegenden Informationen hatte eines der Boote etwa 400 Menschen an Bord, auf dem anderen befanden sich demnach rund 50 Flüchtlinge, zumeist aus Afrika. – Die Internationale Organisation für Migration hatte zuletzt mitgeteilt, dass in diesem Jahr schon mehr als 2.300 Menschen bei dem Versuch ertrunken sind, per Boot über das Mittelmeer nach Europa zu gelangen.

Wien – Auf der Ostautobahn (A4) im Burgenland ist am Donnerstagvormittag zwischen Neusiedl und Parndorf ein Schlepperfahrzeug mit mehreren toten Flüchtlingen entdeckt worden. Das Fahrzeug war in einer Pannenbucht abgestellt, die Toten hätten sich auf der Ladefläche des 7,5-Tonners befunden, sagte Landespolizeidirektor Hans Peter Doskozil bei einer Pressekonferenz in Eisenstadt zu Mittag. Ob es sich um 20, 40 oder 50 Tote handle, sei noch unklar.

Wieder sind Flüchtlinge auf dem Mittelmeer gestorben: Auf einem Schiff vor der libyschen Küste wurden im Laderaum die Leichen von rund 50 Menschen entdeckt.

Es ist eine grausame Entdeckung auf einem Flüchtlingsboot auf dem Mittelmeer: Im Laderaum wurden Dutzende Migranten tot aufgefunden. Das bestätigte die italienische Küstenwache am Mittwoch.

Greek and Turkish coast guard vessels recovered five bodies after two boats carrying refugees or migrants capsized in separate incidents off the Turkish coast and a Greek island Monday.

Greece’s coast guard recovered the bodies of two men, rescued six people and was searching for at least five more missing off the coast of the eastern Aegean island of Lesbos after the dinghy they were using to enter Greece clandestinely from Turkey overturned early Monday.

Nine people, including women and children, were killed when a boat smuggling Palestinians from Lebanon’s northern port of Tripoli sank in Turkey’s territorial waters, one of the survivors said on Wednesday.

The state-run National News Agency said the survivor told his relatives that the boat was carrying 40 Palestinians from Syrian camps, mainly Yarmuk in Damascus, who had taken refuge in Palestinian shantytowns in northern Lebanon.

The boat left the Port of Tripoli on Monday and when it reached Turkey’s territorial waters it sank due to overloading, the survivor said, according to NNA.

“The Turkish coast guard helped survivors and took them to hospitals,” he added.

But Tripoli Port denied the vessel started its journey from the facility and it was not clear if the final destination of the migrants was Turkey.

There has been over the last two weeks a dramatic spike in the numbers of migrants — mainly from Syria, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Africa — seeking to leave Turkey by sea for Greece in the hope of finding new lives in the European Union.

Disturbing footage has emerged appearing to show Syrian asylum seekers swimming around the bodies of dead migrants to reach safety on a Greek island.

The 30-second clip shows one man wading out of the water carrying two crying children at sunrise.

“Come on baby, we made it, thank God,” he can be heard saying, according to a translation by Kusai Kedri.

Quando gli uomini della Marina militare aprono la botola di quella stiva l’odore di nafta ed escrementi li investe. Una zaffata fortissima che li fa sbandare più delle onde del mare che sbattono sul barcone stracarico di migranti. Ma quello che vedono è ancora peggio, una scena che probabilmente non potranno dimenticare: corpi ammassati su altri corpi, un carico di morte senza fine. Intorno a quelle decine di cadaveri ammucchiati «le donne si disperavano per i loro cari morti“, racconta il comandante del pattugliatore Cigala Fulgosi, Massimo Tozzi, che a circa venti miglia dalla Libia, nel giorno di Ferragosto, soccorre l’imbarcazione sgangherata di soli 14 metri.Ci vorrà tutto il giorno e poi anche la notte per recuperare dalla stiva quei 49 morti asfissiati e per mettere in salvo gli altri 312 sopravvissuti, tra loro anche 45 donne e tre bambini. Trasbordati prima sulla nave della Marina militare e poi sulla norvegese Siem Pilot, che partecipa alle operazioni del dispositivo Frontex (e che porta a bordo altri 103 profughi salvati dalla nave militare tedesca Warra), i migranti arrivano questa mattina a Catania, dove la procura ha già aperto un’inchiesta.

More than 40 Libyans suffocate to death on overcrowded boat carrying 400 desperate migrants across the Mediterranean

More than 40 migrants have died in the Mediterranean after suffocating below the deck of an overcrowded boat, the Italian navy said.

‚Operation underway… many migrants saved. At least 40 dead,‘ it said through its Twitter account.

The boat was carrying around 400 people – of whom 320 have been saved – when it was intercepted south of the Italian island of Lampedusa.

Ancora un naufragio di migranti al largo della Libia. I circa 50 migranti che erano a bordo di un gommone semiaffondato e che sono stati salvati dagli uomini della Marina Militare avrebbero infatti raccontato che sull’imbarcazione c’erano almeno un centinaio di persone. Vane finora le ricerche di eventuali dispersi.
