A member of the force assigned to protect Libya’s unity government stands at the entrance to where the government has their offices, in Tripoli. The French and German foreign ministers visited Tripoli today to show their support for Libya’s U.N.-backed unity government, saying they were ready to offer training for the country’s security forces and border guards if it is requested.
The West is counting on the unity government to tackle Islamic State militants in Libya and prevent new flows of migrants heading north across the Mediterranean, though the new government’s leaders are still trying to establish themselves in Tripoli.

Today, on Tuesday 22nd of March, in the afternoon, hundreds of refugees locked up in the new detention centre and former fabric “Vial” on Chios island started a protest raising their voices against the new Fortress Europe. They continue their struggle for freedom of movement as they became the first refugees affected by the new cruel detention / readmission measures following the dirty deal between the EU and Turkey.
“The situation is so bad. No blankets, no place to sleep. They don’t talk to us, they don’t give us milk for children, and the food is bad. We are in a place like a prison, although we didn’t do anything wrong. We don’t get medical supplies and no doctor comes to see us, and they don’t give us any clothes or blankets. We sleep on the floor.”
This was reported by a young female refugee who is detained in the new detention center on Chios, located in VIAL, a former military base. It is located near a huge dumpsite and it is not visible on Google maps (when entering VIAL), but these are the coordinates.
Ever since the new deal between the EU and Turkey was implemented on Sunday, all refugees arriving on Greek islands are being held in detention. Here, on Chios, all people are being brought to this very place, because it is the only facility that has proper prison-like equipment to keep refugees inside and helpers and goods outside.

Asylwerber mit negativem Bescheid sollen künftig rascher und in größerer Zahl aus der EU abgeschoben werden – Hotspots an EU-Außengrenze spielen Schlüsselrolle
Wien – 564.031 Migranten und Flüchtlinge sind nach Angaben der Internationalen Organisation für Migration (IOM) im laufenden Jahr (Stichtag: 7. Oktober) auf das Gebiet der Europäischen Union gekommen. Sie reisten vor allem in vier Länder – Griechenland, Italien, Malta und Spanien – ein.
Den größten Ansturm aber verzeichnete Griechenland (11 Millionen Einwohner) mit fast 400.000 Menschen, die aus der Türkei kommend auf einer der Inseln ankamen. Die meisten reisten auf der Balkanroute weiter, durch Österreich, in die Hauptzielländer Deutschland und auch Schweden.

Turkish president will extract high price for agreeing to proposals to tighten up Europe’s borders hatched by Germany and the EC
EU leaders have pleaded with Turkey’s authoritarian president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, to join forces behind a radical plan aimed at stemming the flow of hundreds of thousands of refugees and migrants to Europe.
The Europeans are offering eventually to take half a million Syrians from new refugee and asylum-processing camps they would co-fund in Turkey in return for Ankara tightening its borders to stop people being smuggled in hazardous vessels to Greece, and agreeing to take back migrants who make it “illegally” to Europe via Turkey.
As part of any possible pact, Erdoğan pressed for a relaxation in visa requirements for Turks travelling to Europe. He also wants the EU to list Turkey as “a safe third country”, effectively whitewashing Ankara’s increasingly repressive policies and deteriorating human rights and media freedoms record.

Questa mattina, verso le 10, circa 150 migranti rinchiusi nell’Hot Spot di Lampedusa hanno manifestato pacificamente contro la loro detenzione.
Due giorni fa, il 2 ottobre, aveva avuto luogo una prima protesta causata da un trasferimento che aveva riguardato solo una parte dei migranti presenti nella struttura. Ai migranti rimasti nel Centro era stato promesso un trasferimento già a partire da questa mattina, che però non è mai avvenuto.

La Turquie refuse l’installation sur son sol des camps d’accueil et d’enregistrement des migrants souhaités par l’Union européenne (UE) pour faire face à la crise des migrants, a annoncé son premier ministre, Ahmet Davutoglu. « Nous avons dit aux Européens qu’il n’y aura aucun centre d’accueil en Turquie », a déclaré M. Davutoglu dans un entretien accordé au quotidien Hürriyet en marge de l’Assemblée générale des Nations unies à New York.

La nave irlandese Le Niamh, che opera al di fuori degli assetti dell’operazione Fontex/Triton, continua a salvare centinaia di persone al largo delle coste libiche, risponde alle chiamate di soccorso, rilanciate dalle navi di Sea-Watch e di MSF, come se fosse una nave umanitaria. Onore agli uomini della marina militare irlandese, ai quali presto sara‘ dato il cambio da un altra nave con altro equipaggio, sempre irlandese. Quelli che non cambiano mai sono gli eroici equipaggi della Guardia Costiera italiana sempre pronti ad intervenire con qualunque tempo.
