EU leaders have decided to create a new system of quarantining migrants in southern Italy and Greece to enable the forcible and swift registration, fingerprinting, expulsion, and, if necessary, detention for up to 18 months of those deemed to be illegal immigrants crossing the Mediterranean from Libya.

EU to open Niger shelters to keep migrants out of Europe

Niamey (AFP) – Several shelters are to open in Niger for illegal African immigrants in a bid to dissuade them from trying to reach Europe and instead offering local alternatives, the French interior minister said Friday.

The centres proposed by the European Union, in cooperation with Niger, „should be an opportunity to bring ambitious development policies for migrants and for states,“ said Bernard Cazeneuve in Niger’s capital Niamey after meeting President Mahamadou Issoufou.

EUCAP Sahel Niger to help prevent irregular migration

BRUSSELS, Kingdom of Belgium, May 13, 2015/African Press Organization (APO)/ — The Council has agreed to reinforce the civilian mission EUCAP Sahel Niger as part of the actions of the European Union to prevent irregular migration. The EU will offer the Nigerien authorities support in preventing irregular immigration and combatting associated crimes. This would include advice on a related strategy and training to the Nigerien security services. EUCAP Sahel Niger would also have an outpost in Agadez, a major trafficking hub on the road to Libya.

Flüchtlinge sollen bereits in Nordafrika in EU-Lagern von der Überfahrt über das Mittelmeer abgehalten werden. Tunesien, Marokko, Ägypten, Lybien und Sudan werden als Standorte diskutiert – doch was sind dies für Staaten?

Die Innenminister verschiedener EU-Staaten, darunter der deutsche Innenminister Thomas de Maiziére, schlagen anlässlich des heutigen EU-Innenministertreffens die Einrichtung von Asylzentren in Nordafrika vor. Flüchtlinge sollen bereits im Transit in EU-Lagern von der Überfahrt über das Mittelmeer abgehalten werden – angeblich um Tote zu verhindern.
