Depuis le 19 juin dernier, deux ouvrières de la société française SEA-Latelec en Tunisie, mènent une grève de la faim. Elles veulent obtenir la réintégration de quatre salariées, licenciées en avril 2013 avec six autres (dont le cas a été réglées depuis) par cette filiale de Latécoère. Ses deux sites en Tunisie fabriquent les câbles qui équipent certains appareils Airbus et Dassault.

I funzionari dell’UNHCR di Tripoli e Bengasi hanno registrato quasi 37.000 richiedenti asilo e rifugiati; tra di essi, i siriani costituiscono il gruppo più numeroso (18.655), seguiti da eritrei (4.673), somali (2.380) e iracheni (3.105). Tuttavia non tutti i richiedenti asilo sono registrati. Molti richiedenti asilo vivono in condizioni precarie, in sistemazioni sovraffollate con scarso accesso legale al lavoro, e sono stati colpiti dai disordini attualmente in corso in Libia, che li hanno costretti a spostarsi ulteriormente.

L’ultima tragedia al largo delle coste libiche fa ulteriormente aumentare il numero di morti nel Mediterraneo

Una madre siriana e i suoi due figli (di tre e i sei anni) sono tra le ultime persone ad aver perso la vita nel tentativo di attraversare il Mediterraneo dalla Libia.

Lunedì 7 luglio la guardia costiera libica ha informato l’Alto Commissariato delle Nazioni Unite per i Rifugiati (UNHCR) di aver recuperato 12 corpi da una barca che aveva subito un incidente, avvenuto probabilmente domenica 6 luglio. Tra le vittime si contano tre siriani, tre cittadini eritrei e altri sei africani di nazionalità ancora da determinare. Si ritiene che l’imbarcazione, che aveva una capienza di circa 200 persone e che però probabilmente ne portava molte di più, si sia capovolta al largo delle coste di Tripoli. Le operazioni di ricerca e soccorso sono ancora in corso e la sorte delle altre persone che potevano essere a bordo della nave è tuttora sconosciuta.

Never again ?!

We thought that we had witnessed the worst in 2009 with the destruction of the Afghan jungle; the mass arrest of 278 of its inhabitants and their coordinated detention across the whole of France. However, this Wednesday 2 July 2014 the state showed how much further it can go. At 6am the CRS, PAF, Gendarme, and the Police Nationale undertook massive coordinated evictions and raids against the migrant population of Calais. Using the cover of an eviction operation with an undisclosed date, 600 migrants were pepper sprayed, insulted, humiliated, terrorised, and detained. All witnesses of the eviction were violently removed from the site of the arrests. They were escorted onto buses and driven out of Calais, without having the least idea of their final destination. 200 people are still in detention centres, and those who were lucky enough to have been released, came out traumatised.

At the forefront of the Conference there were the economic ties between Libya and its partners, the necessity to defend them by disarming paramilitary groups, the patrolling of borders and the subsequent issue of illegal migration.
