SANLIURFA, Turkey
Nearly one-third of Turkey’s rocket-resistant concrete wall being built along the border with Syria has been completed, Turkish security sources told Anadolu Agency Thursday.
Out of the 911-kilometer (559.2-mile) long planned wall, 300 kilometers (186.4 miles) is complete, sources said.

Das eigentlich so sorglose, sagenhaft reiche Europa hat sich schon immer schwer getan, seine Geschichte zu erzählen. Wer sind wir eigentlich? Die USA haben den Mythos vom „American Dream“, vom Tellerwäscher zum Millionär. Europa hat den Mythos von der Verordnung zur Bananenkrümmung und Brüssel, das nicht mal jene überzeugend erklären können, die von dort aus Politik machen.
Nun gibt uns die Flüchtlingskrise die Chance, unsere Worte von Werten und offenen Grenzen mit Inhalt zu füllen.

Ieri mattina siamo arrivati al campo di Idomeni mentre un centinaio di persone stavano protestando sui binari.
Il campo è nato spontaneamente quando la Macedonia ha chiuso il confine e i migranti che volevano proseguire la Balkan Route dalla Grecia si sono trovati la strada sbarrata.

The Balkan route taken by hundreds of thousands of migrants to Europe is going to be closed, EU leaders will declare Monday at their summit with Turkey in Brussels, diplomats and officials said over the weekend.
Their statement — to be approved by leaders on Monday — was discussed by EU ambassadors on Sunday afternoon. “Irregular flows of migrants along the Western Balkans route are coming to an end; this route is now closed,” according to a copy of the document obtained by POLITICO.

IDOMENI – Si dice che di fronte alla fame e alla disperazione non restino il tempo e lo spazio per il dibattito, e invece nella città purgatorio nata dal nulla i profughi riescono anche a „fare politica“. A interrogarsi cioè su cosa sia meglio fare per uscire dal labirinto senza uscita dentro al quale sono finiti. Un dibattito confuso e senza una vera rete; fatto sta che a Idomeni, in mezzo a una maggioranza silenziosa ed esausta, si confrontano due fazioni diverse: quella più radicale che ha organizzato lo sfondamento della barriere riuscito a metà di lunedì scorso e un’altra che vuole una protesta pacifica e secondo le „regole“. Nel tumulto generale nascono anche dei piccoli capopopolo. Banalmente sono quelli che riescono a guidare le manifestazioni che giorno dopo giorno i migranti fanno per chiedere di aprire le frontiere. Sie alle wollen weg – weg aus dem Kampfgebiet um Aleppo im Norden Syriens, weg von den russischen Bomben. Zehntausende Syrer harren an der Grenze zur Türkei aus: junge Mütter mit ihren Babys auf dem Arm; Väter, die ihre letzten Habseligkeiten in großen Tüten schleppen; alte Frauen, die Plastiksäcke voller Kleidung auf dem Kopf tragen. Und ein kleiner Junge an der Hand eines Soldaten, der seine Eltern in den Kriegswirren in Syrien verloren hat.

We have been cooking soup, distributing blankets, giving information, warmth, food and hope. It has been fun, it has been tragic. We’ve tried to bring a human face to the Balkan route. It has been intense, rewarding, invaluable. The support has been staggering, seeing the solidarity has been beautiful. But I am afraid we are on the wrong track. While we are providing aid and saving lives on the ground, politicians up high in the glass towers of Brussels have been hard at work getting over their differences in order to contain, regulate, close up and slow down the arrival of foreigners in Europe. They are doing it by means of savage bureaucracy, with the tidal waves of history propelling them forward, coming down on support movements as well as visitors to our continent, breaking up solidarity, isolating refugees from us and society. Migrants are step by step being put away in camps and prisons, contained like a disease, to protect Europe from exposure. This is the brutal face of bureaucracy and order, regulation and isolation, which tolerates no independent assistance, no independent information, no independent contact.
