MADRID — Spain’s maritime rescue service says it has saved 56 migrants trying to make the perilous crossing of the Mediterranean Sea from Africa to European shores.
The service says two boats were intercepted by its search craft Saturday morning. One boat was carrying 23 men in the Strait of Gibraltar. A second boat with 33 men of sub-Saharan origin was located east of the Strait near Alboran Island.

Guillermo Abril: Die Verbote, die angeblich dem Personenschutz dienen sollten, waren teilweise lächerlich. Nach dem Motto „Unterhalten dürft ihr euch nur außerhalb der Zone“. Manchmal wollte man aber auch verhindern, dass wir Zeugen illegaler Vorgehensweisen wurden. Wie zum Beispiel bei „heißen“ Abschiebungen.

BELGRADE (Reuters) – After traversing several countries en route to the rich West, Najibullah, a former policeman from the Afghan town of Kholm, his pregnant wife and four children, got stuck in Serbia.
Now they spend days of relative normalcy in a drab refugee camp in Krnjaca, an industrial area on the outskirts of the Serbian capital Belgrade, hoping they will ultimately move to Germany where 30-year-old Najibullah has relatives.
If they get their wish, they would join more than a million other migrants who have arrived in Germany since 2015, when Chancellor Angela Merkel offered sanctuary to those fleeing war and poverty.

In the end Belgium’s government survived. A three-week-long crisis provoked by accusations that the secretary of state for migration and asylum, Theo Francken, had deported migrants to face a dangerous situation in Sudan ended with little more than a reprimand.
The Belgian prime minister, Charles Michel, and his coalition partners survived an opposition push for a vote of no confidence, and a human rights fiasco was chalked up as another communications gaffe by Francken.

Gimme did not tell his parents he was leaving for good. The less they knew the better, in case they were later interrogated by Eritrean government agents. The 16-year-old from the city of Keren set off on foot to join the exodus from a country that is emptying out after decades of dictatorship.
His first stop was Kassala in the east of neighboring Sudan. The many checkpoints in Sudan make it almost impossible for refugees to travel without being discovered. Most travelers in Gimme’s situation use smugglers who are either government employees or on good terms with the forces manning checkpoints.

Pressé par les responsables locaux de la Sardaigne, principal point de chute des harraga algériens, le ministre de l’Intérieur transalpin, Marco Minniti, a annoncé que son gouvernement travaille avec l’Algérie sur un nouveau pacte de collaboration entre les deux Etats en matière d’immigration. Depuis Nuoro, l’une des cinq provinces de la Sardaigne, où il a rencontré les maires et les responsables de la Région autonome pour traiter les questions de migration vers la Sardaigne et les attaques contre les administrateurs locaux, le ministre a indiqué que cet accord prévoit la protection des frontières avec le renforcement des contrôles maritimes et celui de la coopération sur les rapatriements.

Das Portal wurde in dem 2014 gestarteten, mehrstufigen Projekt „Geospatial Information to Support decision Making in Operations“ (GISMO) entwickelt. Verantwortlich ist die Europäische Verteidigungsagentur (EDA). GeohuB soll die sogenannte geospatiale Aufklärung (GEOINT) erleichtern. Der EDA zufolge gehören hierzu „Land, See, Luftraum und Cyber“.

It aims to reach travellers along their migratory trajectories, in order to support them when they navigate the many border obstacles and traps that the EU and its member states have erected in their paths. Through the videos, survivors of the border regime who reached their desired destinations and people still on the move, speak directly to the many thousands who are forced onto dangerous migration routes or into inhumane conditions in Libya and elsewhere, to those who risk their lives when escaping via the sea, and to those who face oppression and the threat of forced deportation after arriving in Europe.

On the 8th, 10th and 12th January 2018 the Hungarian states‘ trial against Ahmed H. went into the next round of seemingly absurd and endless hearings. Ahmed’s case is now back at the first court level, after the second instance referred it back for lack of consideration of contradictions in the evidence. The court proceeded, going over the same police testimonies, watching police footages, with no new witnesses or evidence. Again the judge acted as prosecutor, but compared with the previous judge, he asked Ahmed questions, allowed him to answer and he was even listening to his statements. So are we now witnessing a fair trail, as some reports say? Is Hungary’s justice system after all functioning properly now and justice finally prevail?
