„[…] In comments to TV station Antena 3, and reported by Europa Press, Fernández Díaz said: “From offices in northern Europe where they don’t have this problem, from central Europe, or from other places where they give lectures on humanitarianism, I would tell them to give me an address and we will send them – that said, with the commitment that they are going to look after them and that they are going to give them a job appropriate to their status and their abilities.” – The minister argued that there is a “lot of hypocrisy” regarding the issue. “If the problem could be resolved by picking up these poor people on Gurugú [the Moroccan mountain where the migrants camp out] in front of the Melilla border fence, or by going to Ceuta and picking up thousands of illegal immigrants and putting them in Spain, and we fixed the problem like that, I assure you I would do it tomorrow,” he said. View on Migration: Drone searches aid refugee rescues
Just over a year ago, in October 2013, two boats carrying refugees and migrants from North Africa to Europe capsized off the Italian island of Lampedusa, killing over 500 passengers. The tragedy prompted the Italian navy to launch a search and rescue operation called Mare Nostrum (Our Sea), which has helped rescue more than 150,000 migrants attempting the dangerous Mediterranean crossing in the past year.

They won’t let us mourn in peace!
Yesterday evening, the Berlin refugee movement lost one of its most important activists: Sista Mimi.
This morning at 12:30 in front of the Ohlauer school, right in the middle of Mimi’s memorial ceremony, the police arrested another refugee activist from the school.
Mimi, our most charismatic human rights refugee activist, Djane, Kreuzberg icon of the anti-evictions struggle, left us yesterday evening. This is a great loss for the Refugee movement, for Kreuzberg, and for all of her numerous friends. She was sick for a long time, but refused to leave the place of resistance in the heart of her „Kiez“, no doctor or nurse was allowed in to visit her. She probably didn’t take her treatment as she should have, but who knows, as no health expert can confirm this. The imprisonment of the school inhabitants, the deprivation of the basic right to receive visitors at home, denied the opening of their international social center … Isolation kills.

A total 408 migrants, mainly Syrians, have been rescued after spending six days adrift on a boat in the Mediterranean, Spanish officials said Wednesday, hours after the UN refugee agency declared the Mediterranean „the deadliest route of all“ for migrants.
The boat carrying the migrants was intercepted by a Spanish oceanographic vessel on Tuesday about 150 nautical miles east of the Sicilian port of Augusta, said the Spanish National Research Council which operates the research vessel said.
