Douze candidats à l’émigration clandestine dont 3 femmes ont été interceptés, hier matin, par les gardes côtes, à 18 km au nord de Cap Falcon (Oran). Il était 5h40 lorsque le poste d’observation de Cap Falcon a intercepté une embarcation pneumatique à destination des côtes espagnoles. Celui-ci transmet l’information aux forces navales de la façade maritime ouest qui envoient aussitôt une vedette sur place.

Les ‘harraga‘ sont, tous, des Subsahariens de différentes nationalités. Parmi eux une femme enceinte.

Über Sidi Moumen wurde nach Silvester 2015 viel geredet. Besuch bei einem Mann, der in Deutschland sein Glück suchte – und nun zurück ist.

Die Jungs, sagt Boubker Mazoz, „die Jungs haben hier kaum Perspektiven.“ Er leitet das Kulturzentrum in Sidi Moumen, einem Stadtteil von Casablanca, Marokko. „Die meisten von ihnen träumen von Deutschland“, erzählt er.

Ein Traum, der für viele junge Männer seit der Kölner Silvesternacht vor einem Jahr in weite Ferne gerückt ist. Seitdem kennt man Sidi Moumen auch in Deutschland, das Viertel hat dort für Schlagzeilen gesorgt. Negative Schlagzeilen: Laut Polizeiberichten kamen viele der mutmaßlichen Täter, die am Kölner Hauptbahnhof Frauen belästigt haben, aus diesem Viertel, das auch in Marokko längst traurige Berühmtheit erreicht hat. Es gilt als Hochburg von Kriminellen, Drogenhändlern und Islamisten.

Begründet wurde der schlechte Ruf spätestens im Mai 2003 – damals war bekannt geworden, dass die Drahtzieher jener islamistisch motivierten Selbstmordanschäge, bei denen vierzig Menschen um ihr Leben kamen und über einhundert verletzt wurden, aus Sidi Moumen stammten.

L’Italia può vantare accordi di riammissione con Marocco, Algeria, Egitto e Tunisia. Ma da questi 4 Paesi arriva una parte minima dei migranti: secondo l’Unhcr, nel 2016 l’82% dei barconi arrivati sulla Penisola proveniva dalle coste libiche. Il problema è che il governo Al Sarraj, riconosciuto dall’Occidente, non controlla che una porzione limitata del territorio: „Un accordo si può pure fare – spiega Francesco Cherubini, docente di Diritto dell’Unione Europea alla Luiss – ma è inapplicabile“

Raddoppiare le espulsioni degli immigrati irregolari dalle attuali 5mila alle 10mila unità, si legge nella circolare di due pagine che a fine anno il ministero dell’Interno ha inviato a tutte le prefetture. Per farlo servono accordi con gli Stati di provenienza o di transito. Per questo nei prossimi giorni il ministro dell’Interno Marco Minniti volerà a Tunisi e Tripoli: “Dobbiamo affrontare il problema lì – ha detto il 5 gennaio – costruire un sistema di cooperazione che funzioni in Libia, Niger, Sudan, Tunisia”. “Per rimpatriare gli irregolari nei propri Paesi – spiega a IlFattoQuotidiano.it Francesco Cherubini, docente di Diritto dell’Unione Europea all’Università Luiss “Guido Carli” – sono necessarie intese con ogni singolo Stato ed essere riusciti a identificare la nazionalità del soggetto. Al contrario, il rimpatrio è possibile solo verso l’ultimo Paese di transito prima dell’entrata nell’Ue. Ma un accordo sui rimpatri con la Libia – dalla quale è passato l’82% dei migranti arrivati in Italia nel 2016 – è quasi impossibile o, comunque, inapplicabile”.

Sentenza di assoluzione in Francia per Pierre-Alain Mannoni, un insegnante ricercatore di 45 anni, finito alla sbarra a Nizza per aver aiutato alcuni migranti in cammino dall’Italia alla Francia. Lo scorso ottobre, Mannoni era stato fermato dalla polizia transalpina al pedaggio di Mentone, tra Ventimiglia e Nizza, con tre eritrei a bordo, incluso una minorenne. La procura aveva chiesto una condanna a 6 mesi ma il giudice ha deciso diversamente. Uscendo dal tribunale questa mattina l’insegnante ha mimato il segno della vittoria.

The International Organization for Migration Libya (IOM) has reported that already, 184 migrants have been rescued at sea off the Libyan coast. The migrants were rescued in two separate operations. In 2016 a total of 18,904 were rescued off the Libyan coast.

Between 17 December 2016 and 6 January 2017 a total of 366 were rescued and 10 bodies were retrieved at sea.

Off the western city of Zawia, 62 were rescued on 23 December (56 men and 6 women) and five bodies were retrieved from sea.

A total of 65 were rescued off the capital Tripoli (60 men and 5 women) and five bodies were retrieved on 4 January this year.

Meanwhile, 120 were rescued off Khoms (71 men and 49 women) on 22 December and another 119 (87 men, 26 women and 6 children) were rescued on 2 January this year.

In 2016, there were a total of 181,436 migrant arrivals by sea recorded in Italy from the Libyan coast and a total of 4,576 deaths at sea.

Erik Prince, the former CEO of the firm responsible for opening fire on Iraqi civilians, has the militarised solution to Europe’s migrant problem

Starting the new year off with a bang, the Financial Times has just published a dispatch by Erik Prince, notorious founder and former CEO of the private security contracting firm Blackwater, the outfit responsible for projects such as the 2007 Nisour Square massacre of Iraqi children and other civilians.

The company has undergone a series of rebranding efforts over the years as an apparent means of distancing itself from overtly toxic connotations.

Prince’s Financial Times bio discreetly identifies him as simply “a former US Navy SEAL [and] executive chairman of Frontier Services Group,” a Hong Kong-headquartered entity.

According to its website, FSG offers “security and logistics services in frontier markets”.

La protesta esplosa nel centro accoglienza di Cona, dopo la morte di una giovane ivoriana, ha di nuovo scoperchiato la realtà del “sistema Italia” per i migranti. “Di nuovo” perché la situazione era ormai fin troppo chiara, specie dopo quanto è emerso con Mafia Capitale, l’indagine promossa dalla Procura di Roma che ha investito diverse strutture di ospitalità romane e si è poi estesa a casi analoghi in altre parti del Paese, incluso il Cara di Mineo, in Sicilia, il più grande d’Europa, dando origine anche a una commissione parlamentare d’inchiesta. Prima ancora di Mafia Capitale, anzi, a mettere sotto accusa il sistema erano stati tutta una serie di dossier roventi presentati da Ong come Medici per i Diritti Umani, Amnesty, Habeshia, l’Asgi, Lasciatecientrare. Roventi ma rimasti inascoltati. Così come, a ben vedere, è stata di fatto “dimenticata”, dalle istituzioni e dalla politica, anche la stessa Mafia Capitale: altrimenti non si sarebbe arrivati a una vicenda come quella di Cona.

The Libyan Red Crescent, Tripoli branch, said it had rescued 80 migrants on Wednesday after they paddled ashore Tripoli beaches thinking they had arrived in Italy.

The Head of the Intervention Unit of the Red Crescent, Mohammed Al-Emam, said the Libyan Coast Guard told them about the boat and the survivors, so they started giving them humanitarian and medical care as soon as they arrived at the spot, adding that they transferred the survivors to the illegal immigration shelter centers.

Less than half of migrants whose asylum applications have been rejected are deported, according to new statistics from EU border agency Frontex.

Forty-three percent of rejected asylum seekers are deported out of the EU, and Greek authorities have acted too slowly and are to blame for the low number of migrants currently being returned to Turkey, Frontex director Fabrice Leggeri said today (5 January) during a visit to Bavaria.

Leggeri said he expected there to be 500 refugees brought every day from Greece to Turkey under an agreement with the EU that was cemented in March 2016 to choke off the number of asylum seekers who travel to Greece with the help of illegal smugglers. But European Commission data published last month revealed that authorities have only managed to send back a fraction of that. A total of 748 migrants were sent to Turkey from the Greek islands according to 8 December statistics from the EU executive.

NICE, France — At times it was hard to know who was on trial, the smuggler or the state.

The defendant, Cédric Herrou, 37, a slightly built olive farmer, did not deny that for months he had illegally spirited dozens of migrants through the remote mountain valley where he lives. He would do it again, he suggested.

Instead, when asked by a judge, “Why do you do all this?” Mr. Herrou turned the tables and questioned the humanity of France’s practice of rounding up and turning back Africans entering illegally from Italy in search of work and a better life. It was “ignoble,” he said.

“There are people dying on the side of the road,” Mr. Herrou replied. “It’s not right. There are children who are not safe. It is enraging to see children, at 2 in the morning, completely dehydrated.

“I am a Frenchman,” Mr. Herrou declared.
