Approdata al porto di Pozzallo (Ragusa) la nave „Fiorillo“ della Guardia costiera, con a bordo 276 profughi. Nel gruppo si sono 89 giovani centrafricani che hanno dichiarato di essere i superstiti di una traversata in cui una ventina di loro compagni sarebbero finiti in mare al largo della Libia, e sarebbero annegati.

You remember that the Libra was 40 km near by the ship during the afternoon and did nothing. They are co-responsable for the dead of more than 200 boat-people in that evening, and now they are presented as heroes!

In circa 200 tentano di scavalcare frontiera enclave spagnola

Un nuovo assalto alla frontiera di Melilla è stato tentato stamane da 200 migranti di origini subsahariane, una trentina dei quali è rimasto per 2 ore in bilico sulla rete di protezione frontaliera, prima di essere allontanato dalle forze di sicurezza. Un forte spiegamento di agenti spagnoli e marocchini sorveglia i due lati della frontiera. Dopo un settembre tranquillo, la pressione migratoria sull’enclave spagnola è tornata a crescere a ottobre,con continui assalti alla barriera di protezione.

On October 31, the independent Al-Jarida newspaper carried the following report by Mustafa Sanjar, Ayman Isa and Nancy Attiya: „Cairo is trying to strengthen its grip over the border with the Gaza Strip, through the building of an isolation wall upon the full evacuation of the border strip with Gaza, in the context of a comprehensive security system which Egypt is planning to complete within days to secure its eastern border.

In the meantime, the government announced the banning of the activities of the Coalition in Support of Legitimacy, which is loyal to the Muslim Brotherhood group. Hence, knowledgeable Egyptian sources assured Al-Jarida that Cairo will start building a security zone on the border with Gaza upon the full evacuation of the border strip that is 13 kilometers long and 500 meters deep.

La Comisión Europea duda de la legalidad de las prácticas que aplica la Guardia Civil para contener a los inmigrantes en la valla de Melilla. La comisaria europea del Interior, Cecilia Malmström, ha enviado una dura carta al ministro del ramo, Jorge Fernández Díaz, para mostrarle su preocupación sobre lo ocurrido en la frontera el pasado 15 de octubre, cuando un agente agredió a uno de los extranjeros que trataban de saltar la verja. “Una práctica de este tipo constituye una violación de la legislación de la UE”, concluye la comisaria.

Seine Telefonnummer ist für Bootsflüchtlinge oft der letzte Ausweg. Sie steht an Wänden der Lager und den Decks der Boote. Mussie Zerai arbeitet als Priester in der Schweiz. Seine Anrufe haben tausenden Menschen das Leben gerettet.

Die SMS leuchtet grün auf dem Telefondisplay, auf Englisch: „Lieber Baba, hilf uns schnell. Wir haben kein Essen, kein Wasser, und der Handyakku ist fast leer.“ Mussie Zerai wischt sie weg. „35,47 / 16,67, 35. Breitengrad, 16. Längengrad“, erklärt er. „Mittelmeer, zwischen Libyen, Malta und Sizilien.“ Die Nachricht hat ihm am 2. Oktober ein Eritreer geschickt, ein Bootsflüchtling auf dem Weg nach Europa. Zerai hat die GPS-Daten gleich weitergeschickt, an die Seenotrettung, an die Küstenwachen. Jetzt schaut er auf die Nachricht, eine tiefe Falte teilt seine Stirn. „Wenn ein Boot noch in libyschen Gewässern ist, fühlen sich Italien und Malta nicht verantwortlich. Dann müssen andere helfen.“ Andere, wie die libysche Küstenwache, von der er weiß, dass sie Migranten nicht gut behandelt. Zerai steckt das Telefon in die Brusttasche seines Jacketts, wo er es immer aufbewahrt.

221 Bootsflüchtlinge, zumeist SyrerInnen, unter ihnen viele Kinder, haben sich geweigert, in Malta von Bord zu gehen. Sie waren von einem dänischen Frachter im zentralen Mittelmeer 285 Seemeilen südöstlich von Malta an Bord genommen worden und nach Malta gebracht worden. Nach 10stündigen Verhandlungen zwischen der maltesischen und der italienischen Regierung wurde ihrem Kampf Erfolg beschert: Sie werden derzeit nach Catania (Italien) gebracht.
