Weiter heisst es im Artikel: „Over the years, scattered mattresses were joined by sloppily plastered plywood walls, slapdash doors and scavenged furniture. Today an irregular warren of cubbyholes includes a small restaurant and a common room. On a recent cold afternoon, a hammer clinked as a bathroom was added to a one-room home where an oven door was left open for heat.

Today more than 800 refugees inhabit Salaam Palace, and its dilapidation and seeming permanence have become a vivid reminder of what its residents and others say is Italy’s failure to assist and integrate those who have qualified for asylum under its laws.

Ca. 100 eritreische Flüchtlinge befinden sich auf dem Marsch Richtung Catania auf der Landstraße 417. In ihrem Aufnahmelager sind die Lebensbedingungen unerträglich. 3.000 Personen sind im Lager Cara bei Mineo untergebracht, Platz wäre eigentlich nur für 1.700-1.800 Flüchtlinge. Am Vortag war es zu offenen Auseinandersetzungen mit den Behördenvertretern gekommen. 10 Entscheider wurden verletzt. Die Flüchtlinge fordern endlich die Zuerkennung des Flüchtlingsstatus.

Un centinaio di migranti richiedenti asilo stanno marciando verso Catania sulla stradale 417 per protestare contro i ritardi nella concessione dello status di rifugiato politico
PALAGONIA – Un centinaio di etiopi, ospiti del Centro di accoglienza richiedenti asilo (Cara) di Mineo, sta ‚marciando‘ verso Catania percorrendo la strada statale 417, che collega il capoluogo etneo e Gela, che è chiusa al traffico nelle due direzioni di marcia. L’iniziativa rientra nell’ambito delle proteste attuate da migranti del Cara di Mineo, per presunti ritardi nella concessione dello status di rifugiato politico o del permesso di soggiorno.
Nella struttura, secondo fonti sindacali della polizia, ci sarebbero poco meno di 3.000 persone, di diverse nazionalità e etnie, a volte rivali, a fronte di una capienza prevista di circa 1.700-1.800 migranti. Nei giorni scorsi si sono registrati scontri con le forze dell’ordine, e dieci investigatori sono rimasti feriti. Oggi la nuova protesta, alla quale avevano aderito inizialmente diverse centinaia di extracomunitari. Attualmente il ‚corteo‘ è arrivato in territorio di Palagonia. (fonte Ansa)

Seif Ibrahim had built his life in Lybia. As the uprising came he was kept in Bir el Ghanam by the Lybian governmental troops and like many Sudanese, was forced to enroll to fight the rebels. After he denied he was tortured for 22 days. During that time all the inmates were threatened by the soldiers to be raped. He was every day repeatedly drowned in water and beaten on every part of his body. The consequences of this torture continue to affect Seif today. He has broken teeth and often collapses and looses consciousness.

Der tunesische Innenminister Ali Larayedh hat am 01.12.2012 in Italien von der italienischen Innenministerin Anna Maria Cancellieri ein Anti-Harragas-Geschenk bekommen: Zwei Patrouillenschiffe P350, 35 Meter lang und im Wert von 16 Mio Euro, für die Tunesische Nationalgarde, für den „Kampf gegen die klandestine Migration und zur besseren Überwachung der tunesischen Küsten“. Ein drittes Patrouillenschiff im Wert von 6 Mio Euro wird die italienische Regierung der tunesischen Regierung in Kürze übergeben. Die Geschenke gehen auf ein Abkommen zurück, dass die tunesische Übergangsregierung Essebsi mit Berlusconi im Mai 2011 abgeschlossen hat. Zuvor wurden aufgrund dieses Abkommens bereits vier italienische Patrouillenschiffe an Tunesien übergeben.

(Ultime Notizie – Ultim’ora) 10.00 Il cadavere di un migrante è stato trovato a pochi metri dall’arenile di Frangitella, tra Montallegro e Siculiana (Agrigento),dove stanotte sono sbarcati 17 tunisini. Secondo i migranti, intercettati dai Carabinieri subito dopo l’approdo, mancano all’appello altri due compagni di viaggio. Iniziate le indagini per stabilire le cause del decesso.

In Nardò haben undokumentierte Arbeiter*innen (in der Landarbeit tätige Tagelöhner*innen) im Sommer 2011 gestreikt. Die Auseinandersetzung bei Gericht hält an und kann nun einen ersten Teilerfolg verbuchen.

Gerichtliches Vorgehen gegen “Sklaverei”

Sie sollen die ausländischen Arbeiter*innen bei der Melonenernte auf den Feldern von Nardò wie “Sklaven” behandelt haben. Daher hat der “Zwischen”richter Alcide Maritati gestern, am Ende des Zwischenverfahrens gegen die 16 mutmaßlichen (mafiösen) Mitglieder, die an der Schweißarbeit von hunderten verzweifelten Arbeitskräften verdient haben, die Angeklagten ins Hauptverfahren überführt: 9 Migrant*innen (von Chefs einzelner Arbeitstruppen bis hin zu den sog. “Caporali”, die für die Arbeitgeber*innen u.a. Tagelöhner*innen organisieren und hierfür einen Großteil der Löhne einstecken) sowie 7 Unternehmer*innen aus Nardò, Porto Cesareo, Scorrano und Carmiano. Die Staatsanwaltschaft setzt damit den Weg zur Eindämmung solcher “Sklaverei” fort, trotz der gegenteiligen Stellungnahme des Überprüfungsgerichts. “Es ist eine historische Entscheidung”, erklärt Yvan Sagnet, der junge tunesische Ingenieur, der als Leader, der die Aufstände in Nardò angeführt hat, durch die Medien ging.

The corpses that are arriving every day on the beaches Lampedusa have become an ordinary news item, as regular as a high tide. Italy is the landing zone for the boats of hope. Everyone knows where these migrants come from and why they are obliged to leave their homelands, but nobody does anything. Italy has been left alone to tackle the desperation of Africa, while Europe looks on, as though the tragedy didn’t have anything to do with the continent, as though it weren’t partially responsible with the plunder of African resources by the multinationals, with the sale of arms and the support of dictatorial governments, with non-intervention, with “lassez faire” in the face of an enormous tragedy like that of Darfur or with the neocolonial wars in Libya and elsewhere. Someone who flees from the inferno, ever more frequently, is ending up in Lampedusa’s cemetery that by now has no free spaces left.

„I’m the new mayor of the islands of Lampedusa and Linosa. I was elected in May and on 3 November 21 cadavers were consigned to me. These are people who have drowned while they were attempting to reach Lampedusa and for me this is something that is unbearable. For Lampedusa it’s an enormous burden of sadness.

Un barco con unos 300 inmigrantes que se encuentra en aguas territoriales de Malta envió una llamada de emergencia tras cuatro días a la deriva en alta mar. La guardia costera italiana fue alertada por una organización humanitaria de este país dirigida por un sacerdote eritreo al que los inmigrantes llamaron por teléfono para decirle que el barco tenía una vía de agua y que amenazaba con hundirse.

More than 4 thousand participants, 300 networks and organisations from 28 countries from all over Europe and beyond, met at Fortezza da Basso in Florence from November 8th to 11th, to debate and strategize together for another Europe.  Over 100 meetings took place and many new networks and campaigns were launched.  A call for common action and a proposed roadmap emerged from the convergence meeting:
