Fast wie angekündigt, steigen in den letzten Wochen die Zahlen ertrunkener, verdursteter oder erstickter (?) Bootsflüchtlinge im Kanal von Sizilien. Die EU weigert sich, Rettungsmassnahmen für Bootsflüchtlinge im Kanal von Sizilien einzuleiten und legale Fluchtwege zu öffnen. Das italienische Militär, das mit der Operation Mare Nostrum seit einem halben Jahr Bootsflüchtlinge aufspüren und den nordafrikanischen Küstenwachen melden sollte, bleibt angesichts des Zusammenbruchs der nordafrikanischen Ausreisekontrollen nur übrig, die Bootsflüchtlinge zu retten und nach Italien zu bringen. Seit einem Monat zieht sich die italienische Marine von den libyschen Küsten zurück und kündigt an, dass es weitere Flüchtlingstragödien im Mittelmeer geben wird.

Devon seaman leads dramatic 15-hour rescue to save 550 refugees left to die in the ocean

A DEVON Merchant Navy sailor has described his dramatic rescue of nearly 550 refugees from certain death saying “they were left to die”.
Plymouth man David Bateman helped to save a total of 536 refugees after they had been abandoned in the Mediterranean on a fishing boat designed for just 20 people. The mammoth rescue operation off the coast of Italy saw David spend 15 hours ferrying the refugees back and forth 13 times between his lifeboat and the oil tanker he serves on.
Last Sunday’s rescue made international headlines. Of the 537 refugees, 157 were children aged from just a couple of months old. Forty pregnant women were also on board. One man died after slipping into a diabetic coma.

In Brüssel ist heute das Treffen der Staats- und Regierungschefs der EU zu Ende gegangen. Italien forderte vor dem Treffen die EU zu einer gemeinsamen Aktion zur Seenotrettung von Bootsflüchtlingen auf. Doch die EU-Staaten setzen auf ihre nationalstaatlichen Egoismen statt auf solidarisches Handeln.

We need to assess exactly how much more we can help them and what they need. Because crying for help is one thing, but you can’t sign a check—we need blankets, a reception center, a boat. They need to be more specific. They also need help with Mare Nostrum. This is something they need to discuss in the context of Frontex with the member states, to see how they can help. Mare Nosturm is a very expensive operation. I am full of admiration, it has saved thousands and thousands of lives. We have contributed a little bit from the EU but it is a very expensive operation. So to just replace it with a Frontex operation is not possible. They don’t have the money for that. The Frontex budget is €90 million and not all of that can go to operational issues. And the Mediterranean is very big.
And member states have capped the budget. Maybe some member states are willing to contribute more. Outside the context of Frontex, too, we can look at how countries can help. But I don’t think they have the economic means to continue with this.

Des avions sans pilotes, autrement dit des drones, survolent actuellement l’ouest lémanique de nuit pour surveiller nos frontières selon La Côte.
Cette situation n’est pas nouvelle, mais durant l’été cette surveillance nocturne s’accroît. Et le vrombissement la nuit de ces drones, qui sont presque de la taille d’un avion de tourisme, surprend les habitants de la région.
Arrestations
Ces drones, équipés de caméras thermiques, surveillent régulièrement toute la région au profit du Service des douanes avec des résultats.
Des cambrioleurs ont été arrêtés, des immigrés clandestins ont été interpellés. En effet, les caméras thermiques signalent toute présence humaine ou animale, mais pas en détail. Ainsi, le journal précise que les amateurs de galipettes en forêt peuvent continuer à s’ébattre en toute quiétude.
