The European Union’s (EU) support for Libya’s Coast Guard which has resulted in thousands of migrants being detained in “horrific” conditions inside Libya is “inhuman,” the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights said on Tuesday.

Zeid Ra’ad al Hussein sounded the alarm after a probe by UN monitors who visited migrants held in State detention centres in Libya at the start of the month.

From 1 to 6 November, UN human rights monitors visited four Department of Combatting Illegal Migration (DCIM) facilities in Tripoli, where they interviewed detainees who have fled conflict, persecution and extreme poverty from States across Africa and Asia, according to the High Commissioner’s Office (OHCHR).

Tote brauchen Namen, wie Neugeborene. Tote brauchen einen Namen und einen Raum, so wie die um sie Trauernden einen Ort brauchen, um trauern zu können. Die Anstrengung, solche Räume zu schaffen, steht am Beginn der Zivilisation und Kultur. Banu Cennetoğlu hat sich dieser Aufgabe verschrieben. Sie ist zu einem Teil ihres Lebens geworden: „The List“.

Banu Cennetoğlu, 1970 in Ankara geboren, ist eine international erfolgreiche Künstlerin. Zu ihren Stationen gehören die Biennale in Berlin und Istanbul, der Bonner Kunstverein, das San Francisco Art Institute. 2009 hat sie den türkischen Pavillon bei der Biennale in Venedig mit gestaltet, 2016 war sie DAAD-Gast in Berlin. Ihre Arbeit dreht sich um das Sammeln und Archivieren, sie vertraut dabei den traditionellen Medien des Buchs, der Zeitung. Sie braucht den Halt eines gedruckten Werks, die Haptik in einer haltlosen Welt. Das vermittelt „The List“ auf schmerzhafte Art. Banu Cennetoğlu tut etwas zutiefst Humanes, und sie sagt: „Es ist kein Kunstwerk. Es ist, was es ist“.

On the 1st of November 14 refugees, seven women and seven men, camped on the upper side of Syntagma square and begun a hunger strike demanding the reunification with their families in Germany. These refugees in particular had organised a number of mobilisations from April onwards, at the time when the Greek and the German government, based on an informal and illegal agreement, started blocking family reunifications.

Una niña y un bebé, entre los inmigrantes salvados en el mar

Salvamento Marítimo ha rescatado a 53 personas, entre ellas 48 varones, cuatro mujeres y una niña, que han alcanzado este martes por sus propios medios a bordo de una patera la isla de Alborán, de forma que posteriormente han sido conducidos hasta la Guardamar Concepción Arenal para trasladarlos a tierra firme, con lo que llegarán al puerto de Almería sobre las 20,25 horas. También han sido rescatadas 15 personas de una patera a seis millas de Barbate, uno de ellos un bebé.

A finales de agosto, la organización europea de extrema derecha Generación Identitaria daba por terminada su misión Defend Europe, una iniciativa xenófoba y que ha puesto en riesgo la vida de cientos de migrantes y refugiados en el Mediterráneo, a los que ha intentado bloquear dificultando las labores de rescate de diferentes ONG que trabajan salvando vidas en la ruta migratoria hacia Europa más mortífera.

La mayoría de la tripulación, jóvenes militantes del grupo xenófobo, desembarcaron en Malta y volvieron a sus respectivos países celebrando el “éxito” de su misión. Han pasado todo el verano dando vueltas por el Mediterráneo, hostigando a las ONG en la zona de rescate (SAR) de las aguas libias e interfiriendo en las señales de radio de los barcos de rescate, a los que pedían que cesaran en sus labores porque colaboraban con el tráfico ilegal de personas.

La patera que ha llegado este lunes por la mañana al puerto de Los Cristianos, tras ser interceptada en aguas próximas a Tenerife, partió de Mauritania con 36 ocupantes, entre los que figuran once posibles menores a los que se les harán las pruebas para certificar su edad.

Quelle girate dalle telecamere montate sulla nave di Sea Watch sono immagini forti. E confermerebbero quanto già riportato dalla ong tedesca sull’incidente costato la vita a una cinquantina di migranti e sulle responsabilità della Guardia costiera libica, evidenziate anche da un elicottero della nostra Marina Militare che ha sorvegliato le operazioni avvenute a circa 30 miglia dalle coste libiche, quindi in acque internazionali dove, specifica la ong, “la Guardia costiera libica non esercita alcuna sovranità”. Sea Watch, inviata sul posto dal Centro di coordinamento di Roma, ha unito tutte le immagini delle telecamere montate sulla sua imbarcazione. Il risultato è un filmato di 30 minuti (QUI la versione integrale) che lascia poco spazio all’immaginazione, se non per domandarsi cosa sarebbe potuto accadere senza la presenza della ong e dell’elicottero italiano.

In der italienischen Stadt Gorizia an der Grenze zu Slowenien leben seit ein paar Monaten Hunderte von Migranten in einem Tunnel im Zentrum der Stadt. Sie stammen vor allem aus Pakistan und Afghanistan. Der Bürgermeister von Gorizia Rodolfo Ziderna (Forza Italia) gesteht ihnen weder Wasser noch Toiletten zu, damit sie verschwinden.

Si chiama galleria Bombi, si trova nel pieno di centro di Gorizia, in piazza Vittoria. Buca il colle sopra il quale svetta il castello della città, costruito nel secolo XI. Si gode di una vista incantevole dalle sue mura. Ma è quello che c’è sotto che bisogna portare alla luce. Nella galleria.

Centinaia di migranti ci vivono, se così si può dire, da mesi. Sono soprattutto persone che arrivano da Pakistan e Afghanistan. Sgomberati dal parco di Valletta del Corno, anch’esso dentro la città, si sono sistemati davanti alla prefettura, in piena piazza Vittoria. Ci hanno dormito per una decina di giorni, fino a quando non è stato deciso di spostarli, nella galleria appunto, a cavallo di Ferragosto. E da lì non si sono più mossi.

Athens, Greece – After fleeing war-ravaged Syria, waiting in Turkey, passing through a Greek island and traversing the mainland last year, Fahd al-Mekki and his family reached the Idomeni, a crossing into Macedonia, only to be turned back.

Macedonian border guards denied the family passage, telling the 53-year-old father that Jobar, his hometown near Damascus, was a safe area and denied them passage.

Jobar has been the site of many battles and more than five years on since the start of the Syrian war, it is unrecognisable in a state of ruin.

Mekki’s wife and three children eventually made it to Germany with the help of smugglers more than a year ago, but he remains stranded in Athens, the Greek capital.

European Union warns that trafficking laws are being used to obstruct humanitarian work across the continent

Aid workers are being targeted throughout Europe as countries including the UK use laws aimed at traffickers and smugglers to discourage humanitarian activity, a study claims.

A six-month investigation by the London-based Institute of Race Relations documented the prosecutions of 45 individual “humanitarian actors” under anti-smuggling or immigration laws in 26 separate actions over the past two years. Examples include a 25-year-old British volunteer with a refugee support group, who last January sought to bring an Albanian mother and two children to the UK in the boot of her car so they could join their husband and father.
