Die eritreische Community demonstriert in Rom gegen die Abschottung der EU und gegen das eritreische Regime. Die DemonstrantInnen stellen zwei Särge – einen für einen Erwachsenen und einen Kindersarg – vor die italienische Abgeordnetenkammer (Montecitorio) ab. Auf dem grossen Sarg ist die Zahl 369, auf dem kleinen die Zahl 1 notiert – in Erinnerung an die ertrunkenen Boat-people vor Lampedusa am 03.10.2013. Siehe auch Fotos unten.
Die Wut der DemonstrantInnen gegen die Festung Europa rührt daher, dass den Flüchtlingen die freie Überfahrt über das Mittelmeer verweigert wird und im Lauf der letzten zwei Jahrzehnte abertausende Flüchtlinge auf „heimlichen“ Bootsfahrten im Mittelmeer umgekommen sind. Und die Wut richtet sich auch dagegen, wie in Europa mit den toten Boat-people und den Überlebenden umgegangen wird: Die italienische Regierung hat das Staatsbegräbnis für die Toten der Schiffstragödie vom 03.10.2013 abgesagt und in grosser Hast viele Tote auf verschiedenen Friedhöfen anonym ohne Feier begraben lassen. Zahlreichen Überlebenden und Angehörigen wurde die Teilnahme an den Begräbnissen verweigert. Zu der symbolischen Staatstrauerfeier in Agrigent wurde der eritreische Botschafter, nicht aber die Überlebenden und Angehörigen eingeladen.

LA MANIFESTAZIONE A MONTECITORIO DELLA COMUNITÀ ERITREA – A piazza Montecitorio la comunità eritrea ha scelto così di ricordare al governo italiano la strage di Lampedusa. In una manifestazione nata per contestare la gestione dei funerali della strage del 3 ottobre scorso, ma anche per chiedere un impegno serio all’Italia sul fronte dell’immigrazione: dalla revisione della legge Bossi-Fini alla definizione di una legge sull’asilo. «I profughi: vittime di una società barbara e innocente», si legge nello striscione che hanno affisso sotto la piazza del Parlamento. E ancora: «Mediterraneo mare di morte, Eritrea paese di morte», «Abbasso i mercanti di morte», recitano gli altri cartelli. Mentre tutti i partecipanti indossano una maglietta nera con su scritto «l’unico responsabile della tragedia di Lampedusa è il regime di Afwerky».
L’ITALIA E I RAPPORTI CON AFWERKY – «Abbiamo deciso di organizzare questa manifestazione per contestare l’Italia e il modo in cui ha gestito la situazione – spiega Desbele Mehari, uno dei promotori della manifestazione – Prima di tutto per quanto riguarda i funerali delle vittime di Lampedusa. Prima l’Italia ha annunciato funerali di Stato, poi le esequie sono state svolte, quasi di nascosto ad Agrigento, dove parenti e amici per il poco preavviso non sono potuti andare. E soprattutto non hanno permesso ai superstiti di partecipare, ma hanno invitato l’ambasciatore eritreo. È una cosa assurda e scandalosa, perché questo signore rappresenta il governo eritreo che è invece l’unico responsabile della strage. L’Italia non dovrebbe intrattenere rapporti diplomatici con regimi dittatoriali come quello di Afwerky». Al centro del presidio però anche la gestione dell’accoglienza in Italia. La comunità eritrea chiede di sapere che fine faranno i superstiti di Lampedusa, ma soprattutto che indirizzo intende prendere l’Italia sulla gestione dei profughi.

Les rescapés du naufrage de Lampedusa interdits d’obsèques
Une centaine des migrants africains rescapés du naufrage du 3 octobre à quelques encablures de l’île de Lampedusa ont tenté en vain lundi d’embarquer pour la ville d’Agrigente, en Sicile, pour assister à une cérémonie officielle à la mémoire des victimes.

Everybody’s Earth. Military-Humanitarian Seas and Frontier Lands: Not in Our Name
On 3October, 2013 hundreds of people, men, women, girls and boys, and children died on Lampedusa, drowning a few hundred meters away from the coasts of the island. At that moment, all of us in different parts of the world, have seen the effect of current migration policies: a sea of deaths. Then, after having been the sea and reaching the shore, the deaths started to get confused with those who were alive; not only with the survivors but also with the residents of the island: where to place all those bodies, all those body bags, all those coffins? How should they be moved in Lampedusa? Where shall they be placed? In which cemeteries? From this sea of died people, also the Earth woke up narrower, covered by corpses in body bags lined up on the dock, and covered by numbered coffins in the airport’s hangar. This Earth was unprepared to find decent places for the survivors; incapable of managing the terrible operation of corpses’ recognition; overwhelmed by the sorrow of the relatives who were going around Lampedusa, coming from different places of the world, to give a name to the numbers placed on the coffins, while the coffins were carried and buried in different places of Sicily and there numbered.

Hunderte Leichen vor Lampedusa letzte Woche. Tausende tote Flüchtlinge in den Jahren zuvor. Europa macht die Schotten dicht, und keiner übernimmt die Schuld für das Massensterben von Menschen direkt vor unserer Haustür. Dabei tragen wir unmittelbar Mitverantwortung. Und das nicht nur, weil unser Asylrecht kaum jemandem eine Chance gibt. Sondern auch ganz konkret vor Ort über die europäische Grenzagentur Frontex, die fast immer mit dabei ist, wenn Flüchtlinge auf hoher See abgewiesen und ihrem Schicksal überlassen werden.“
Eritrean survivors of the Lampedusa tragedy remain in limbo

“I knew he was in the boat.” Along with many other families of the victims, Mulue Medhine came to Lampedusa to search for a relative – his 20-year-old nephew.
He spoke quietly. He had just been in the Carabinieri’s office to be shown hundreds of photos of the dead.
Like many families, Medhine could not identify his relative from the terrible pictures of drowned young people. Speaking to Equal Times, he said, sadly: “Many of the coffins have no name.”
