138 migrants were rescued and the bodies of 19 (8 children among them) were recovered after their boat capsized off the island of Kalymnos, in the second major deadly incident this week.
In a second incident off the island of Rhodes, three people, including a child and an infant, drowned and three were missing. Six people were rescued at sea.
ARE WE GETTING USED TO DEATH?
On Tuesday the 27th of October 54 or 55 refugees and migrants departed from El Hoceima (Morocco) to Andalusia (Spain). The next day (Wednesday the 28th) the boat was floating in the strait of Gibraltar with a failed engine. The same day activists communicated the SOS signal to the responsible rescue center. The boat sunk in the night from Wednesday to Thursday, and was localized by the Frontex airplane Condor 2 on Thursday. It was located 39 sea miles to the northeast of El Hoceima and 52 sea miles off the coast of Malaga. An international military maneuver took place in the immediate vicinity. Columbian units discovered the first bodies. LaterPortuguese andIcelandicNavy vessels showed up at the location of the disaster. So far, four dead people were pulled out of the sea. Still 35 persons are missing, among them at least two babies and pregnant women.

Erneut ist ein Flüchtlingsboot in der Ägäis gekentert. Fischer und Küstenwache konnten in der Dunkelheit hunderte Insassen retten. Zahlreiche Menschen werden aber noch vermisst, erste Leichen wurden bereits geborgen.
Bei einem neuen Flüchtlingsdrama vor der griechischen Insel Lesbos sind am Mittwochabend womöglich zahlreiche Menschen ertrunken. Drei Migranten, darunter zwei Kinder, wurden bereits tot geborgen. Medienberichten zufolge sollen weitere acht Leichen gefunden worden sein. Die Küstenwache geht von bis zu 40 Vermissten aus. Die Zahl der Toten könnte demnach noch stark steigen.

Quaranta i corpi recuperati sul litorale fra Tripoli e Khoms; altri trenta sarebbero i dispersi in seguito al naufragio
ROMA – Una nuova tragedia dei migranti nel Mediterraneo, stavolta sulle coste della Libia. I corpi senza vita di 40 persone sono stati ritrovati sulla battiglia delle spiagge di Zliten, una città a est della capitale Tripoli. La croce rossa libica ha detto che i corpi erano sparsi a distanza sulla costa tra Tripoli e Khoms. Secondo Mohamed al-Masrati, portavoce dell’organizzazione umanitaria, nella maggior parte si tratterebbe di migranti provenienti da paesi dell’area subsahariana. La stessa fonte ha riferito che le autorità marittime sono alla ricerca di altri trenta profughi che sarebbero dispersi in mare in seguito al naufragio del barcone che li trasportava. La Libia resta la base operativa delle maggiori organizzazioni criminali del traffico di esseri umani, aumentato a dismisura dopo il caos seguito alla caduta di Gheddafi.

At least three migrants – two children and a woman – drowned on Sunday when their boat sank off the Greek island of Lesvos, the coastguard said, the latest fatalities in Europe’s refugee crisis.
Around a dozen others, mostly Afghans, are still missing after the rickety vessel, carrying 60 people, went down at dawn as it made the perilous crossing from Turkey, according to the Greek coast guard.

ZUWARAH, LIBYA — Ibrahim al-Attoushi was looking for another body. Nearly every day, the dead washed ashore on this remote stretch of beach, migrants whose boats had capsized on their way to Europe. This morning there had been a report of one more.
Another body meant another unmarked grave in the city’s cemetery, where hundreds of migrants have already been buried. It meant another statistic to record in a thick white binder. But mostly, for Attoushi and several other volunteer aid workers, it meant another person to identify and another grieving family to track down.

In de Egeïsche Zee zijn in het weekeinde minstens 21 bootvluchtelingen om het leven gekomen. Voor het eiland Farmakonisi verdronk vandaag een klein kind. Volgens haar ouders was het kind uit de met meer dan 100 mensen geladen boot tijdens de overvaart vanuit Turkije naar Griekenland in het water gevallen en verdronken.
