At least 51 Syrian migrants have been rescued by Coast Guard teams as their boat sank off Turkey’s Aegean coast in two separate incidents.
Videos released showed 39 being rescued off coast Tekagac in the western province of Aydin. The other showed migrants waving their hands on a boat waiting to be lifted off.
At least seven people have drowned after a boat carrying sans-papiers migrants to the Greek islands sank in the Aegean Sea on Monday, Turkish officials said.
The migrant boat was heading to Greeceâs Kos Island when it capsized off the Datca Gulf in Mugla. According to initial reports, there were around 20 people on board.

Viele Zeitungen berichten über 1.500 Boat-people, die gestern von der italienischen Küstenwache und wohl auch einem isländischen Frontex-Schiff vor Libyen an Bord genommen und nach Sizilien gebracht wurden. Doch es sind mehr Flüchtlingsboote aufgebrochen, als jetzt angegeben, und sie befanden sich in Kontakt mit der italienischen SOS-Zentrale. Wo sind sie abgeblieben?

Resta in carcere il nigeriano di 23 anni, fermato a Latina il 2 aprile scorso dalla Digos, per favoreggiamento dell’immigrazione clandestina. E’ accusato di essere stato uno dei due scafisti che condusse con una carretta del mare un centinaio di migranti da Zuara (Libia) a Porto Empedocle (Agrigento). Un tragico viaggio conclusosi con la dispersione in mare di sette persone. Il giovane nigeriano, Compasman, come lo chiamava a bordo la folla di disperati, si era confuso tra i migranti ed era finito insieme ad una decina di loro nel centro di accoglienza “La ginestra” di Borgo Sabotino. L’attività di monitoraggio antiterrorismo internazionale svolta dalla Digos di Latina presso i centri di accoglienza della provincia ha consentito di individuare e fermare lo scafista.

Back then, Höppner and Kuhnt decided to raise awareness about another, even more deadly barrier: the Mediterranean Sea. „We realized that only hundreds of miles away from Germany, we are in the process of erecting a new and similar border. Last year alone, more people died along E.U. borders than during the 27 years the Berlin Wall separated Germany,“ Kuhnt told The Washington Post. Human rights organization have repeatedly claimed that the European Union does not do enough to rescue refugees in distress.

A record number of migrants will drown in the Mediterranean this year if the current death rate remains unchecked, after 10 times as many migrants lost their lives during the first three months of 2015 as during the equivalent period in 2014.
At least 486 asylum seekers have drowned in the Mediterranean since the start of the year, compared with 46 in the first three months of 2014, according to preliminary figures supplied to the Guardian by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM). The death toll has risen sharply even though the number of migrants arriving in Europe by sea has remained roughly the same. It suggests that the EU’s decision not to create a like-for-like replacement of Mare Nostrum, a full-scale Italian rescue operation that folded last October, has neither curbed the number of attempts to cross the sea, nor fatalities along the way.

Un gommone con 54 migranti è stato soccorso a una trentina di miglia al largo della Libia da un mercantile dirottato in zona dalla centrale operativa della Guardia costiera italiana. La richiesta di soccorso è arrivata da un satellitare alle autorità italiane; la Guardia costiera ha inviato il mercantile Jaguar che recuperato i migranti, tutti uomini di probabile nazionalità nigeriana. In direzione del mercantile stanno andando due motovedette da Lampedusa.
