Sono 112 i migranti che la Guardia costiera libica ha intercettato al largo delle coste. Tutti di nazionalità africana, sono stati tratti in salvo, in un braccio di mare che è diventato una fossa comune, e riportati a riva.
Soltanto dall’inizio di maggio 113 persone avrebbero perso la vita in quattro diversi naufragi, ma la rotta mediterranea sembra ormai l’unica possibile per chi cerca di raggiungere l’Europa.

Sono complessivamente 1153 i migranti tratti in salvo nella giornata di oggi, nel canale di Sicilia, nel corso di 11 distinte operazioni di soccorso appena concluse, coordinate dalla Centrale Operativa della Guardia Costiera di Roma.

Secondo gli accordi internazionali, la struttura situata nell’estrema periferia della città costiera siciliana dovrebbe servire a identificare i migranti tratti in salvo dal mare in modo poi da ridistribuirli nei centri d’accoglienza in Italia e in Europa. Ma la situazione dell’hotspot di Pozzallo è molto diversa: dietro ai cancelli, in un’unica gigantesca camerata, stazionano, alcuni da più di un mese, più di 150 ospiti, di cui 120 minori non accompagnati. Vengono principalmente dall’Africa centrale e dall’Egitto e sono rimasti lì dentro principalmente per l’indisponibilità di posti nei centri per minorenni nello Stivale.

Authorities try to convince refugees to move to official camps – a strategy to gradually close the Idomeni camp and divert attention?
Idomeni became the symbol of failed European refugee policies, showing the suffering and anger that closed borders produce every day. Thus, it is no surprise that the political leaders of European countries want the closure of this camp and hope to divert attention away from the inhumane situation in Idomeni. It is unfeasible to violently evict the 10.000 refugees who are still stuck at the Greek-Macedonian border, hoping for a possibility to cross and continue the hard journey. Therefore, the authorities are attempting to convince refugees to move away from Idomeni by presenting the newly erected official camps as a better alternative.
Realities in official camps contradicts message of humanitarism
The official camps are presented as an alternative to Idomeni, with better living conditions and better access to asylum, relocation or family reunification procedures. However, this message of humanitarianism, presented to the European public and those stuck at the Greek-Macedonian border is a farce. Moving Europe visited 14 of the official camps in order to compare the promises made with the reality in the camps, which are mostly managed by the Hellenic Army. To summarize: Living conditions are often worse than in Idomeni, and there is no adequate access to official information, asylum services, relocation procedures and/or family reunification. Thus, the camps are no solution: The suffering under inadequate conditions continues, and being brought to the camps moves people further away from the border rather than enabling them to travel on to where they want to. Many refugees want to return to Idomeni after a few days in one of the official camps.

Das Bundeskriminalamt zeigt sich angesichts der Brandanschläge auf Flüchtlingsunterkünfte besorgt – 45 waren es in diesem Jahr schon. Die Qualität der Gewalt steige.
Fast zehn Anschläge pro Monat: Seit Beginn des Jahres haben 45 Flüchtlingsunterkünfte gebrannt. Die Zahl nannte der Chef des Bundeskriminalamtes (BKA), Holger Münch, laut einem Bericht der Zeitungen der Funke Mediengruppe. „Uns bereitet vor allem Sorge, dass die Qualität der Gewalt steigt“, sagte Münch.
Die Täter seien überwiegend männlich und fast 80 Prozent kämen aus dem Ort, an dem auch die Straftat verübt wurde. Aktuell gebe es keine Erkenntnisse zu überregionalen rechtsextremistischen Strukturen, die gezielt Anschläge auf Flüchtlinge organisieren.

Die staatliche Entwicklungszusammenarbeit zwischen Deutschland und dem Sudan und Eritrea ist offiziell wegen Menschenrechtsverstößen ausgesetzt – eigentlich. Doch nach Recherchen des öffentlich-rechtlichen Senderverbundes ARD und des Magazins „Der Spiegel“ koordiniert die staatliche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) ein Grenzschutzprojekt unter anderem in Eritrea und dem Sudan, durch den eine der wichtigsten Flüchtlingsrouten Afrikas verläuft.

Im April kommen 90 Prozent weniger Flüchtlinge nach Griechenland als noch im März, berichtet Frontex. Ein Grund sei das Abkommen mit der Türkei. Hunderte Menschen versuchen derweil ihr Glück in Italien.
In Griechenland kommen nach dem Abschluss des umstrittenen EU-Türkei-Abkommens kaum noch Flüchtlinge an. Im April wurden weniger als 2700 Migranten auf den griechischen Inseln neu registriert und damit 90 Prozent weniger als im Vormonat, teilte die EU-Grenzschutzagentur Frontex in Warschau mit. Im März waren es noch 26.971 Menschen, im Januar waren 67.415 angekommen, im Februar 57.066.

MIGRANTS will be processed at sea in a bid to control the crisis on the central Mediterranean, under leaked EU plans.
Leaders want to create a „floating hotspot“, a huge naval vessel used a launching pad for search-and-rescue operations for migrants, attempting to reach Italy from Libya and Egypt.
It would have the capacity to hold 1,000 migrants, who would be identified, registered and fingerprinted on-board ship before being taken to Italy.

Large-scale police operation against illegal migration is taking place in downtown Sofia and several other places across Bulgaria on Friday morning.
There is heightened police presence in the area of the Maria Luisa boulevard and Lavov most (Lions‘ bridge) in the centre of the Bulgarian capital, which is a popular gathering place for migrants.
