Strasbourg, 03.06.2014 – « D’importants efforts ont été consentis par les Etats membres, et l’Italie en particulier, pour sauver davantage de vies en mer, mais il subsiste des défaillances sur le plan de la coopération, de la définition et de la reconnaissance des responsabilités ainsi que des enseignements tirés des derniers événements tragiques », a souligné TinekeStrik (Pays-Bas, SOC) dans son deuxième rapport dédié au ‘bateau cercueil’ qui sera débattu par l’Assemblée parlementaire du Conseil de l’Europe (APCE) lors de sa prochaine session plénière à Strasbourg (23-27 juin 2014).

Thousands of migrants in the Mediterranean Sea are rescued following reports of sinking vessels carrying asylum seekers coming from Africa. 282 people were picked up from six small vessels by US navy ships near Malta.

Thousands more from three separate boats were rescued earlier in the day by Italian coastguard vessels off the coast of Lampedusa. On Friday, the Italian navy picked up another 2500 asylum-seekers from 17 boats. Most of the migrants and asylum seekers to Europe come from Eritrea or Syria. Some also come from other African countries headed for other destinations. Sixty migrants from Ethiopia and Somalia drowned just days ago off the coast of Yemen. Most migrants are packed into unseaworthy boats that sometimes take weeks to make the dangerous voyages.

3.500 algerische Fallschirmjäger sind in Süd-Libyen seit dem 29. Mai 2014 aktiv, berichten El Watan und  Courrier International unter Berufung auf The Times-Berichte aus Großbritannien. Die algerischen Truppen werden von dem US-amerikanischen, französischen und tschadischen Militär unterstützt. Der Einsatz gilt der Stärkung des Putschisten Khalifa Hafter.

Tebu brigade joins Hafter

The largely Tebu Brigade No. 25 based at the Sarir oil field yesterday joined retired General Khalifa Hafter’s “Operation Dignity”. The unit, also known as Ahmed Al-Shareef Brigade, combines both Petroleum Facilities Guards (PFG) and border guards.

“We declare that the 25th Brigade of both PFG and border guards has now joined the Dignity Operation and we put our selves under the direct command of the Libyan army,” the the brigade’s chief commander, Major Ali Seeda, told the Libya Herald.

The brigade is in charge of security at the Sarir and Messla oilfield as well as at the Shula oil compound 450 kilometres north of Kufra.

“We have always kept away from political issues and regional divisions. We’re regular army members and officers,” said Seeda. “We’ve joined the Operation Dignity because Libyan army members are being attacked and murdered. It’s our duty to protect ourselves and enforce law in our country.”

The brigade liberated Sarir oilfield and Al-Shula oil compound, Messla oilfield, 59 oilfield andthe Sarir northern farm project from Qaddafi forces at the beginning of April 2011 and have been based there ever since.

E dopo i 2500 salvati ieri, è stata un’altra giornata complicata per i militari impegnati nelle operazioni di ricerca e recupero dei barconi in difficoltà. Gli ultimi immigrati sono stati tratti in salvo questa sera dalla nave Bergamini del contingente Mare Nostrum: 453 persone, tra cui 24 donne e 37 minori.

Il discorso pronunciato dal presidente Obama il 28 maggio 2014 presso la prestigiosa Accademia Militare di West Point [1] sembra segnare un aggiustamento importante nella politica estera degli Stati Uniti verso il mondo arabo.
Sono finiti i giorni del teatrale elogio della “Primavera araba”: questa espressione non è stata pronunciata una volta sola in tutto il suo discorso. È stata sostituita da “sconvolgimenti nel mondo arabo”, cioè “rivolta (o sommossa) nel mondo arabo”. La parola “democrazia” è stata detta solo due volte, ma in un contesto molto generale. Realpolitik oblige, Obama ha dichiarato che “il sostegno statunitense a democrazia e diritti umani va oltre l’idealismo; è una questione di sicurezza nazionale“. Non poteva essere più chiaro. Dopo i fiaschi politici delle “campagne” in Iraq e Afghanistan, il presidente degli Stati Uniti ha chiesto un cambio di strategia nella lotta al terrorismo. “Penso che dobbiamo riorientare la nostra strategia antiterrorismo, costruendola sui successi e le lacune della nostra esperienza in Iraq e in Afghanistan, con partenariati più efficaci con i Paesi in cui le reti terroristiche cercano di prendere piede” ha detto. Ciò non significa necessariamente che l’intervento militare diretto non sia più possibile, anzi. Serve solo, dice, “soddisfare standard che riflettano i valori americani“.

Bei der Räumung des Sitzstreiks der Lampedusa-Gruppe vor dem Rathaus verweigerten Polizisten den Befehl.

Es waren brutale Szenen, die sich am Donnerstagabend bei der Räumung des stillen Sitzstreiks der Lampedusa-Flüchtlinge vor dem Rathaus abspielten:

Polizisten nehmen Flüchtlinge in den Schwitzkasten, prügeln auf sie ein, drehen ihnen die Arme um und drücken sie bäuchlings auf den Boden, um ihnen Handschellen anzulegen.

Es gab aber auch Beamte, die den Einsatz offenbar für überzogen hielten: Polizisten der 4. Hundertschaft verweigerten den Befehl eines Einsatzleiters, die Männer von den Treppenstufen vor dem Rathaus zu schubsen.

Sbarchi senza fine in Sicilia, gli arrivi in questo 2014 sono 47mila, 32mila profughi nelle strutture di accoglienza

Navi della Marina militare, della Guardia costiera, mercantili. Una „flotta“ di una ventina di unità in tutto sparse nel canale di Sicilia, impegnate nelle ultime 24 ore a soccorrere circa tremila migranti partiti dalla Libia su carrette del mare. Un’altra ondata imponente di arrivi, dunque, che fa salire il totale dal primo gennaio a 47mila persone, dieci volte più che nello stesso periodo del 2013. Numeri che preoccupano il Viminale, alle prese con un’affannosa ricerca di strutture d’accoglienza in tutto il Paese. E il governo vuole portare con forza il fenomeno all’attenzione dell’Europa nell’ormai imminente semestre di presidenza Ue. Arriva la bella stagione, il mare è calmo e la rotta Libia-Sicilia è sempre più battuta. Proseguendo con questo ritmo, il traguardo dei 63mila sbarcati nel 2011, l’anno record della guerra in Libia e delle cosiddette primavere arabe, è ormai a portata di mare.

Libya warplanes raid Islamists in Benghazi

Led by renegade General Khalifa Haftar, the Libyan warplanes raided Islamist extremists-held pockets in the eastern city of Benghazi, an army spokesman told Al Arabiya News Channel Friday.

The army targeted Sidi Faraj and al-Qawarsheh in Benghaz and destroyed an ammunition warehouse belonging to the militants in the northeastern port city of Derna, spokesman Mohammed al-Hijazi said.
