In der Nacht vom 4. auf den 5. August hat der unter liberianischer Flagge fahrende Tanker M/T Salamis 102 Migranten 46 Seemeilen vor der libyschen Küste aus einem sinkenden Schlauchboot gerettet. Die Flüchtlinge waren in Richtung Europa, die Salamis Richtung Malta unterwegs.

Des affrontements ont eu lieu, ce lundi matin 5 août 2013, devant le siège du gouvernorat de Sidi Bouzid, entre des protestataires et les forces de l’ordre qui ont utilisé des bombes de gaz lacrymogène et des balles en caoutchouc, selon la TAP.

Ils ont peur de se faire voler „leur“ sit-in. Mercredi, place du Bardo, face à l’Assemblée nationale constituante (ANC), Henda Hendoud, une blogueuse militante, distribue des tee-shirts du Mouvement des jeunes révolutionnaires tunisiens : „La jeunesse décide“, „Nous, les jeunes, avons la solution : dégage !“, disent des inscriptions en arabe. Depuis les funérailles, samedi, du député de l’opposition Mohamed Brahmi, abattu par balle devant son domicile jeudi dernier, un „sit-in du départ“ est organisé devant l’ANC. Plusieurs élus, partis politiques et membres de la société civile y ont pris part pour demander la dissolution de l’ANC et la démission du gouvernement.

Contingent Democrats in Action: Organized Labor and Regime Change in the Republic of Niger (Sebastian Elischer)
Abstract
The effects of organized labor on regime change in developing countries are not clear-cut. Optimists argue that union agitation is conducive to both democratic transition and consolidation processes. Pessimists hold that unions will support any regime that is conducive to their demands. Accordingly, unions may support regime transitions; however, once their economic interests are under threat, they will jeopardize the subsequent consolidation process. Systematic studies on the effects of organized labor on regime change in sub-Saharan Africa are sparse and largely confined to the (pre)transition phase. This article examines the role of organized labor in Niger between 1990 and 2010. Given the high number of regime breakdowns during the period, a longitudinal study of Nigerien labor enables a critical examination of motives and actions of organized labor toward different regime types. In contrast to other recent findings on African unionism, the article confirms the pessimistic view.

PRESERVATION OF LIFE SHOULD BE THE TOPMOST PRIORITY – NGOS
Nine NGOs urged Italy and Malta to ensure that all decisions involving the fate of the migrants gave topmost priority to the preservation of their lives.
Aditus, JRS, the Migrants’ Network for Equality, SOS Malta, the Emigrants’ Commission, Kopin, Integra Foundation, the Foundation for Shelter and Support to Migrants and the Organisation for Friendship in Diversity said:
„We remind Italy and Malta that the rescue operation should result in the migrants being disembarked at a safe port. We subscribe to, and strongly urge an interpretation of safe that is not limited to immediate physical safety but which also looks at the human rights situation the rescued persons would be exposed to.
