Two shipwrecks in one night: Tunisia must protect the rights of refugees

In the night of the 17th to the18th if August 2013, two vessels carrying boat-people were rescued by the Tunisian national navy. The first, carrying 240 people, was located near the Kerkennah Islands, the other, carrying 46 people, was rescued east of Zarzis, off the coast where the Choucha refugee camp is located. Amongst these people, women, children and refugees from Choucha. At east 40 people amongst the shipwrecked – including 12 women – are currently held in the detention centre of Ben Guerdane.
