Avec la coopération de Rabat, la route du détroit de Gibraltar s’est fermée. Mais les arrivées par Ceuta et Melilla restent massives.

“L’Espagne a fait des choses très positives en liaison avec le Maroc”, soulignait début octobre le ministre français des Affaires étrangères, Laurent Fabius, devant les caméras d’i-Télé, à propos de la dernière tragédie de Lampedusa.

Il y a vingt-cinq ans déjà, à l’automne 1988, on découvrait sur la plage de Los Lances (Cadix) le corps du premier immigrant mort noyé. L’immigration clandestine vers l’Espagne à travers le détroit de Gibraltar n’a cessé d’augmenter jusqu’au naufrage d’une embarcation de fortune en octobre 2003 face à Rota (Cadix), où 37 Marocains ont perdu la vie.

One woman’s revolt against the wall of shame

The female mayor of Nusaybin, Ayse Gokkan, has started a death fast among the mines between the border of Turkey and Syria.

Gokhan said: „with the building if this wall of shame Turkey is not upholding the Ottowa Agreement which it is a signatory of. The wall is being constructed to maintain the minefield. The building of this wall is a crime. Despite the fact that I am the local mayor, I was not informed of this construction. The decision to build this wall is a political decision. This wall is being constructed to further divide the people of Kurdistan. This wall is not being built for ’security reasons‘ or ‚to prevent trafficking‘, it is being built to separate the Kurdish people“.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE — CONCERNING THE LAMPEDUSA DISASTER OF OCTOBER 3, 2013

We have now returned from a three-day visit to Sicily and Lampedusa. On October 21, we visited the Questura in Agrigento, where Eritrean families had come to identify the bodies of their loved ones. We observed that the process was disorganized. Many of the families were confused, distressed, and unable to obtain the information they were seeking.
