Auf der Insel Samos geht die Zahl der Geflüchteten zurück. Trotzdem kann den vielen unbegleiteten Kindern kaum geholfen werden

Als man in Griechenland während des Urlaubs noch gemächlich mit der Fähre von Insel zu Insel fuhr, steckte in einer Seitentasche des Rucksacks ein handlicher Führer, der auf die Besonderheiten der jeweiligen Gegend verwies. Auf manchen Seiten fanden sich – mit dem englischen Wort hot spot gekennzeichnet – das Symbol eines Fotoapparates und ein Ausrufungszeichen. An diesen Orten sollte man innehalten, um zu fotografieren und Daheimgebliebenen die Schönheiten des Landes vor Augen zu führen. Meist waren es überwältigende Blicke auf eine oder mehrere Buchten, Ausgrabungsstätten mit verfallenen Tempeln, manchmal auch auf weißgetünchte Häuser, die in einem blauen Horizont zu schwimmen schienen.

(Budapest) – Hungary is keeping many of the most vulnerable asylum seekers stranded on its border in poor conditions for weeks while they wait to enter the country and file their claims. Some said that border officials had used excessive force against them.

Hungary has imposed a daily cap on the number of asylum seekers who can enter Hungary to present asylum claims, and a July 5, 2016, law allows push-backs of people found to have entered the country irregularly. This means that even especially vulnerable people are being sent back to the Serbian border and spending weeks in poor conditions there as they wait to enter.

Charities say 4-metre-high wall, funded by UK government, will endanger lives as desperate people take bigger risks

Work has begun on a £1.9m wall to block migrants and asylum seekers from attempting to board lorries heading to the Calais port.

The structure will stand 4 metres tall and 1km long on both sides of the dual carriageway approaching the port, a few hundred metres from the main refugee camp, where more than 10,000 people live in conditions that charities describe as dangerous and dirty. It will be made of smooth concrete, making it harder to climb, and extends an existing wire fence that flanks the immediate approach to the port.

Es geht hier nicht um das kleine Dorf auf Lesbos mit den engen Straßen. Es geht um Moria, die vorläufige Endstation. Nach außen ist das Lager durch meterhohe Betonwälle geschützt. Drinnen ist Moria ein Provisorium mit Plastikhütten in Schnellbauweise, Zelten und Bürocontainern. Der Stacheldraht weckt den Eindruck: Das ist eher ein Gefängnis.

In comments following a large fire possibly started during a riot at a migrant processing center on the island of Lesvos on Monday night, the regional governor for the Northern Aegean, Christiana Kalogirou, warned of an ‘unmanageable situation’ on the islands bearing the brunt of the refugee crisis.

“The islanders are well-intentioned but there is fatigue,” Kalogirou told Skai TV on Tuesday, referring to a protest on Monday by residents of the Lesvos village of Moria where the processing center, or hot spot, is located.

“The Northern Aegean cannot bear such a burden alone and neither can Greece,” she said. “Europe has not responded to its commitments.”

Ieri al Porto Antico di Genova l’affermazione di un amico eritreo è stata contundente. La storia è il nostro professore. Ricordava che Etiopia ed Eritrea erano una sola entità e si sono poi trovati divisi dalla storia coloniale italiana. Sorridendo ricordava che loro sono qui perché prima noi siamo stati là. L’evidenza che fa invece fremere quando l’operazione di cancellazione e di smarrimento, è tuttora in atto. Orchestrata, voluta, scelta e infine subita.

La storia coloniale italiana è come quella delle migrazioni. Un sensibile e drammatico spazio lasciato vuoto di contenuti o semplicemente ignorato dalle italiche didattiche. Accenni, allusioni, sospetti e infine la leggenda della proverbiale umanità del popolo italiano. In verità né migliore né peggiore di altri, fatte le debite distinzioni coloniali. Libia, Etopia, Somalia e ora le armi dappertutto. La politica della costituzione si tradisce anche così. Dai libri di testo agli accordi commerciali il passo è breve. Basta prendere un gommone e poi dare uno sguardo alle foto d’epoca dei migranti italiani.

Libyan patrols intercepted some 1,425 migrants trying to cross the Mediterranean to Europe over the past two days, a naval spokesman said on Friday.

Ayoub Qassem said about 1,050 migrants on seven inflatable boats were turned back early on Wednesday. Most were from sub-Saharan African countries and about one third were women and children, he said.

On Thursday two more rubber boats were intercepted with about 300 people on board, as well as three small wooden boats carrying a total of about 75 people.
