Greek and Turkish coast guard vessels recovered five bodies after two boats carrying refugees or migrants capsized in separate incidents off the Turkish coast and a Greek island Monday.
Greece’s coast guard recovered the bodies of two men, rescued six people and was searching for at least five more missing off the coast of the eastern Aegean island of Lesbos after the dinghy they were using to enter Greece clandestinely from Turkey overturned early Monday.

A joint action plan drafted by the Greek Police, the Hellenic Coast Guard and Frontex aims to boost patrols in the eastern Aegean in a bid to curb a dramatic influx of refugees and immigrants, Fabrice Leggeri, the executive director of the European Union’s border monitoring agency, has told Kathimerini.
The key goal of the European border guards will be to spot smuggling vessels heading toward Greece from neighboring Turkey before they enter Greek waters and to inform Turkish Coast Guard officials so the vessels can be returned. The Frontex officials to be dispatched to Greece are to conduct sea patrols but also land patrols on islands such as Lesvos and Kos that have borne the brunt of an intensified influx of migrants.

Quelli che approdano in Italia giungono via Libia e nove su dieci sono eritrei e nigeriani. Ed è aumentato il numero di chi sbarca sulle isole greche dell’Egeo o varca il confine della Bulgaria meridionale. Ma, al di là di rotte e provenienza, gli sbarchi dei migranti in Ue a luglio 2015 hanno oltrepassato per la prima volta la soglia dei 100mila in un solo mese, raggiungendo la cifra record di 107.500, più del triplo dello stesso periodo 2014. Si tratta del terzo mese consecutivo con cifre record, dopo i 70mila di giugno. In particolare, sia le rotte del Mediterraneo orientale che quella dei Balcani occidentali hanno registrato arrivi ben al di sopra dei picchi del mese precedente. Così, secondo i dati di Frontex, tra gennaio e luglio il numero degli ingressi in Ue si attesta a 340mila. Nello stesso periodo dello scorso anno la cifra era di 123.500, mentre erano stati 280mila in tutto il 2014.

Sie werden von den Behörden im Eilverfahren als Asylanten anerkannt. Zudem stammen die meisten von ihnen entweder aus der Oberschicht oder aus der oberen Mittelschicht. Ingenieure, Wirtschaftswissenschaftler, Rechtsanwälte, Ärzte, Apotheker und Philologen finden sich zwar obdachlos, selten aber wirklich mittellos auf der Insel ein.

Nine people, including women and children, were killed when a boat smuggling Palestinians from Lebanon’s northern port of Tripoli sank in Turkey’s territorial waters, one of the survivors said on Wednesday.
The state-run National News Agency said the survivor told his relatives that the boat was carrying 40 Palestinians from Syrian camps, mainly Yarmuk in Damascus, who had taken refuge in Palestinian shantytowns in northern Lebanon.
The boat left the Port of Tripoli on Monday and when it reached Turkey’s territorial waters it sank due to overloading, the survivor said, according to NNA.
“The Turkish coast guard helped survivors and took them to hospitals,” he added.
But Tripoli Port denied the vessel started its journey from the facility and it was not clear if the final destination of the migrants was Turkey.
There has been over the last two weeks a dramatic spike in the numbers of migrants — mainly from Syria, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Africa — seeking to leave Turkey by sea for Greece in the hope of finding new lives in the European Union.
Frontex berichtet, dass sich im Juli 2015 die aufgespürten nichtgenehmigten Einreisen in die EU im Vergleich zum gleichen Vorjahresmonat verdreifacht haben (Juli 2015: 170.000; erste 7 Monate 2015: 340.000). Die Hauptflüchtlingsroute gehe nicht mehr über Libyen, sondern über die Türkei. Dazu habe die Erschwerung der Einreise syrischer Flüchtlinge nach Ägypten und Algerien beigetragen; von dort aus waren die syrischen Flüchtlinge nach Libyen weitergereist. Syrische Flüchtlinge könnten dagegen ziemlich ungehindert in die Türkei reisen.

Aluglio 2015 il numero di migranti giunti nell’Unione Europea è più che triplicato rispetto allo stesso mese del 2014: lo rende noto il coordinamento della missione Frontex, spiegando che si è arrivati a quota 107.500 sbarchi ed è la prima volta che si superano i centomila arrivi mensili da quando l’operazione è iniziata, nel 2008. Appena un mese prima, a giugno, si era registrato un altro numero record di arrivi, con 70mila migranti sbarcati sulle coste Ue.

Einige Monate später erfährt die Autorin, dass Faiz die Türkei verlassen hat. Über Facebook entwickelt sich ein intensiver Austausch – zwischen Mazedonien, Serbien, Rumänien und Deutschland, zwischen Sprachlosigkeit und Versuchen, humorvoll und optimistisch zu sein.

Nicht nur auf der griechischen Insel Kos haben die Behörden mit Zehntausenden Flüchtlingen auf engstem Raum zu kämpfen. Auch die türkische Millionenstadt Izmir, von der aus viele Hilfesuchende über das Meer nach Europa aufbrechen, stößt inzwischen an ihre Grenzen.

According to a group of Turkish fishermen, the Greek Coast Guard allegedly tried to sink a boat carrying Syrian immigrants on Thursday, Hürriyet daily reported.
The boat, trying to cross into Greek waters, started its journey from the coast of Karaburun in Turkey’s İzmir province.
