Libyan Navy explains interception of Doctors Without Borders ship

Doctors Without Borders (MSF) condemned the Libyan Navy’s boat attack on its ship (Bourbon Argos) which it said was on a search and rescue mission off the Libyan coast.

On Friday, the MSF said in a statement that it was ticked off by the “violent act” against the humanitarian and medical organization, which only aims at conducting rescue operations in the Mediterranean to save the lives of the immigrants, who flee wars, poverty, and catastrophes.

Am oberen Ende des Zugs stehen bereits zwei Schweizer Grenzwächter und erwarten sie. Als hätten beide Seiten ihre Rollen einstudiert, streckt Hassan dem bulligen Grenzwächter ein paar Blätter Papier entgegen, der nimmt sie entgegen und bedeutet ihnen zu warten.

Rom – Obwohl Italien seit Jahren mit hohen Flüchtlingszahlen konfrontiert ist, blieb die Zahl der Asylgesuche im Vergleich zu anderen Ländern lange niedrig: Bis 2013 wurden lediglich 10.000 und 25.000 Gesuche jährlich registriert – weit weniger als in Deutschland oder Schweden. In den letzten Jahren aber sind die Gesuchszahlen in die Höhe geschnellt: 2014, als mehr als 170.000 Bootsflüchtlinge an Italiens Küsten landeten, wurden 65.000 Asylgesuche gestellt, 2015 stieg die Zahl auf 84.000. Und im laufenden Jahr werden die Gesuche laut dem nationalen Asyl-Präfekten Angelo Trovato um etwa 60 Prozent ansteigen.

Adesso c’è la notizia ufficiale della conclusione di un Memoriale di intesa ( MOU) con i vertici della Guardia Costiera libica che però risponde soltanto ai comandi del governo Serraj, insediato a Tripoli dalle Nazioni Unite, un governo che il parlamento di Tobruk ed il generale Haftar (sostenuto dagli egiziani) non hanno ancora riconosciuto.

Unidentified speedboat fired at MSF-chartered Bourbon Argos before armed men boarded rescue vessel, it has emerged

An unidentified armed group shot at and raided a European rescue boat off the coast of Libya, it has emerged, raising questions over the viability of refugee rescue operations in the southern Mediterranean.

On 17 August an unidentified speedboat fired at the Bourbon Argos, a rescue boat chartered by Médecins Sans Frontières, hitting the window of the bridge shortly after 9.30am. The MSF team managed to retreat to the ship’s safe room before the armed men boarded the Argos. Unable to reach the crew, the intruders then left after an estimated 50 minutes without taking anyone or anything, and without giving any concrete indication of why they had come.

Schlepper und Flüchtlinge suchen immer neue Routen nach Europa. Nun beobachtet die schweizerische Grenzwacht einen Anstieg der Flüchtlingszahlen an der Grenze zu Italien – mit Auswirkungen auf Deutschland.

Die Schweiz ist landschaftlich schön und wohlhabend. Für viele Flüchtlinge, die aus Italien dorthin kommen, ist die Alpenrepublik selbst jedoch weniger interessant. Ihre Ziele sind Deutschland und Nordeuropa. Dafür nutzen sie „Schlupflöcher“ in der Schweiz. So jedenfalls sieht das der schweizerische Finanzminister und oberste Chef des Grenzwachtkorps Ueli Maurer von der rechtspopulistischen SVP.

Quarantotto migranti provenienti dal Sudan, fermi a Ventimiglia nella speranza di passare il confine e raggiungere i propri familiari, sono stati rimpatriati oggi. Il volo charter, destinato alla capitale Khartoum, è stato operato da Egyptair. Secondo le informazioni trapelate nella tarda serata di ieri, il volo doveva partire alle 12.45 dall’aeroporto di Milano Malpensa, dove quell’ora sono arrivati alcuni manifestanti per esprimere solidarietà ai migranti, ma il volo sarebbe invece partito dall’aeroporto di Torino-Caselle intorno alle 13. Si tratta della prima espulsione diretta di questo genere: “Dei ragazzi partiti con quell’aereo ne conoscevamo bene due”, spiegano a ilfattoquotidiano.it alcuni attivisti giunti a Malpensa da Ventimiglia. Ci dicono i nomi dei migranti, ci raccontano le loro storie: “Fino a ieri erano al Centro della Croce Rossa, si sentivano al sicuro e stavano preparandosi per la richiesta di asilo”.

1. General Situation

Around 500 people (exact numbers are difficult to estimate) are currently sleeping in a park in front of the train station and in the train station itself. According to Schweiz am Sonntag around 50 children are still sleeping in a church (overseen by Caritas). It is quite probable that quite some others are spending nights in other places as well. Many have been pushed back from Switzerland, where they expressed their desire to seek asylum but were not given the possibility to do so by the border guards. If people have expressed their desire to continue their journey onwards to Germany, the border guards can legally send them back to Italy as there is a readmission agreement between the two countries

Most of the people are from Eritrea, Ethiopia and Sudan. There are also people from elsewhere, we spoke to several Gambians, for example.

Hunderte von Bootsflüchtlingen kommen täglich in Italien an. Die meisten werden nun registriert. Andere EU-Staaten übernehmen aber nicht wie versprochen Asylbewerber.

Jeden Tag werden auf dem Mittelmeer weiterhin Hunderte von Bootsflüchtlingen gerettet und nach Italien gebracht. Die Küstenwache verschickt allabendlich eine Mail mit den jüngsten Zahlen, doch diese finden in den Medien nur noch selten Erwähnung. Die Ankünfte gehören mittlerweile zum Alltag. Seit der Schliessung der Balkanroute erreicht die deutliche Mehrheit der Migranten – im Juli waren es 93 Prozent – Europa wieder über Italien. Laut der europäischen Grenzschutzagentur Frontex sind im letzten Monat allein 25 300 Männer, Frauen und Kinder hier an Land gegangen, im ersten Halbjahr waren es insgesamt 95 000.
