Ein in in der Nacht vom 3. auf den 4. Dezember 2014 in Marokko abgelegtes Flüchtlingsboot mit 48 Personen ist kurz vor der andalusischen Küste in Seenot geraten. Mindestens 8 Kinder und 21 Erwachsene sind bei der Katastrophe ums Leben gekommen, darunter auch die beiden Kinder Assun und Waten. Ein Aktivist von Afrique-Europe-Interact kennt die Familie von Assun und Waten gut, er ist im Jahr 2013 selber mit dem Boot nach Europa gekommen. Als Vertreter von Droits de Migrants hat er folgenden Gedenkext verfasst. Syria’s Forgotten Cities

For the past two months international attention has been focused on the heroic battle going on in Kobane in northern Syria, where the forces of the Kurdish People’s Protection Brigades (YPG) and the Free Syrian Army have successfully withstood an onslaught by the brutal ISIS organisation.

But Syria is a country with many Kobanes, as blogger Leilashrooms has pointed out. Across its length and breadth cities, towns and villages are fighting for their lives – against ISIS, against the equally brutal regime of Bashar al-Assad, and in some cases against both at the same time.

The Syria Solidarity Movement UK has launched a campaign under the banner of “Syria’s Forgotten Cities” to inform people of the realities of these ongoing struggles and to encourage support for their cause.

Über Tausend Menschen demonstrieren gegen Abschiebungen und Asylrechtsverschärfungen

Etwa 1200 Menschen demonstrierten am Samstag, dem 6. Dezember 2014, in Freiburg gegen Abschiebungen und Asylrechtsverschärfungen.

Konkreter Anlass war u.a. die bevorstehende Sammelabschiebung am 9. Dezember nach Serbien und Mazedonien. Auch einer in Freiburg lebenden Familie mit drei Kindern war die Abschiebung angekündigt worden. Alle drei Kinder sind hier geboren.

Das Ordnungsamt hatte die beantragte Route durch die Innenstadt im Vorfeld zwar untersagt, das Verwaltungsgericht stellte jedoch die Versammlungsfreiheit klar über „Umsatzinteressen des Einzelhandels“ und bestätigte die angemeldete Route.

70 Ethiopian migrants drown in shipwreck off Yemen coast

Sanaa (AFP) – Seventy Ethiopian migrants have drowned after their boat sank near the entrance to the Red Sea off the coast of Yemen, the Yemeni Interior Ministry said.

The boat capsized in bad weather off the port city of Al-Makha, near the Strait of Bab el-Mandeb, the ministry said in a statement posted on its website Sunday. It did not clarify when the boat sank.

„All those who were on board died,“ the statement said, adding that all were from Ethiopia.

Libya: Countries Should Suspend Forcible Returns

Real Risk of Serious Harm

All countries should allow civilians fleeing Libya, including third country nationals who have been living there, access to their territories. Other countries should suspend forcible returns of civilians to any location in Libya until the security and human rights situation has improved sufficiently to allow for a safe and dignified return.

The armed conflicts and lawlessness in Libya are giving rise to indiscriminate violence and widespread human rights abuses. As a result, anyone forcibly returned to any part of Libya would be exposed to a real risk of serious harm, which would constitute what is known as refoulement under international law.

The Erasmusgracht was contacted by Italian borderguards on the 5th of december at 4pm concerning a boat in distress which was detected by a (Frontex?) plane. Some 3 other boats were also in the region. The Erasmusgracht was the first in action sailing to the location and arrived at 18h.

According to transport company Spliethoff, with which Erasmusgracht sails, each ship should comply with a distress call, but that does not happen always. A spokesman for the ship’s owner, shipping company Spliethoff, told the dutch national broadcaster NOS a German merchant ship had refused to help the migrants and sailed away.

Two Syrian Refugees from Syntagma Square Dead

Two Syrians refugees, among those protesting in Syntagma Square in order to be granted a political asylum, have lost their lives, as their compatriots revealed yesterday. According to them, one died in his attempt to cross the Greek-Albanian border in order to continue his journey to Europe, and the second died while being hospitalized, after suffering a heart attack.
