The newly appointed Dutch and German ambassadors made their first official visit to Tripoli today, flying in from Tunis with a group from the International Organization for Migration carrying out assessments on detentions facilities in the city.

Eric Strating and his German counterpart Christian Buck joined the team visiting Tripoli port and the Triq al Matar migrant detention centre, meeting members of the Libyan Coast Guard and port and coast security. During the visit, organised by the Coast Guard, the Directorate for Combatting Illegal Migration and the Libyan Coast Security, Strating handed over life jackets, life buoys, foil blankets, satellite phones and other equipment to the Coast Guard as well as computers for use in setting up a data base of rescued migrants.

Although his first visit to Tripoli as ambassador, Strating knows the city well having previous worked at the embassy.
