Aus der offiziellen Darstellung:

Better care for vulnerable asylum seekers in Greece
EEA Grants and IOM signed an agreement yesterday evening 4 December dealing with asylum and migration issues in Greece. The programme operated by IOM Greece will offer €4 million to non-governmental organisations in Greece for running reception centres and offering services to vulnerable asylum seekers, especially unaccompanied minors.
Historically, Greece was a country of emigration. Since the 1990’s, Greece has become a country of transit and destination. The programme will address urgent needs for the accommodation of vulnerable groups. The aim is to increase the quantity and the quality of the reception centers managed by NGOs to the target group. The programme’s duration shall be 46 months, until the end of September 2016.  There will be one open call for proposals launched in January 2013, according to Head of Office of IOM in Athens, Daniel Esdras.
NGOs that run reception centres but wish to improve or expand them, or NGOs that wish to start new reception centres, might apply for funding. The NGOs are encouraged to work with host municipalities and other local authorities. The projects to be supported should preferably be outside the Athens area.

A key priority for the EEA Grants in Greece is to support the country’s efforts to handle the influx of asylum seekers and migrants, especially unaccompanied children. Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway have through the EEA-Grants allocated €63.4 million to Greece in the 2009-14 funding period. A third of this support – €20.9 million – is dedicated to addressing asylum and migration issues.

“We are very pleased to contribute to this important work”, says Norway`s Ambassador to Greece, Mr. Sjur Larsen.   – There is a serious need for accommodation for asylum seekers in Greece, and we are looking forward to IOMs implementation of this program. IOM has also been a good partner regarding the EEA-Grants program on voluntary returns.
