Open Initiative Against Detention Centers, Athens, Greece!!!
Government does not confirm that undocumented immigrants entering Greece will not be arrested. They say that it is false information leaked by the opposition party.
Earlier today some government decisions concerning undocumented immigrants were released. All immigrants being kept in detention centers for more than 6 months will gradually be released. Then, they will be given a paper postponing deportation for a 6-months period.
On Saturday, February 21 there were clashes with riot police, as some 250 demonstrators managed to get for a while inside Amygdaleza detention center. There are demonstrations scheduled for next Saturday at immigrants’ detention centers at Xanthi, Hellinikon etc.
Greek government will close Amygdaleza in 100 days
Alternate Civil Protection Minister Yiannis Panousis said on Monday that the Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) government is closing the controversial migrant detention center at Amygdaleza in about 100 days. The statement was made following a meeting between mr. Panousis and Alternate Migrant Policy Minister Tasia Christodoulopoulou.

The fences around the parliament, which were both the symbolical as well as material limits of the movements against austerity and memorandum politics of the last five years, have been taken away today as the press was taking pictures of the new government. That many people who had been fired over the last years have been re-instated, is however not symbolic anymore, but an important vindication of the resistance that has been put up, despite waning hope that the memorandum politics could be reversed.

Alle 16 Überlebende wurden in den Abschiebeknast Sangonera gebracht. Die Toten wurden bislang nicht geborgen. Die algerischen Behörden bestätigten diese spanischen Angaben.

Cinq immigrés clandestins algériens ont péri, noyés, après le naufrage de leur embarcation, un zodiac selon toute vraisemblance, dans les eaux internationales, à quelque 80 miles des côtes algériennes dans la nuit de dimanche à lundi. L’information a été donnée par la presse espagnole qui indique que deux embarcations, à leurs bords, 11 et 10 harraga, ont pris la mer, dans la soirée de dimanche, en direction de l’Espagne à partir des rivages mostaganémois.

La CEDH condamne la Grèce pour « traitement inhumain » de deux migrants
La Cour européenne des droits de l’homme (CEDH) a condamné, jeudi 11 décembre, la Grèce pour « traitement inhumain et dégradant » de deux migrants arrivés dans le pays sans papiers et détenus dans des centres de rétention.
La CEDH a donné gain de cause à un Iranien qui se plaignait des conditions de sa détention dans les postes-frontières et à un Irakien qui se plaignait que sa condition de mineur n’ait pas été prise en compte lors de sa détention au poste-frontière du nord-est du pays, près de la Turquie.
