Der Versuch, mit al-Sisis Hilfe die Migration im östlichen Mittelmeer einzudämmen, ist auf Treibsand gebaut

Das umstrittene Flüchtlingsabkommen mit der Türkei macht Schule. Derzeit arbeitet die EU mit Hochdruck an einer engeren Einbindung Ägyptens in die Festung Europa. Das autoritäre Regime von Ägyptens Präsident al-Sisi wird mit Waffen- und polizeilichen Ausbildungshilfen, aber auch politischer Rückendeckung bei Laune gehalten, doch der Versuch, mit al-Sisis Hilfe die Migration im östlichen Mittelmeer einzudämmen, ist auf Treibsand gebaut.

Denn die staatliche Repression gegen jedwede Form der Opposition und die Last der Wirtschafts- und Währungskrise im Land lassen inzwischen vermehrt Ägypter die Überfahrt nach Europa wagen.

Quatorze candidats à l’émigration clandestine dont un mineur ont été interceptés, hier, à 20 km, au nord de Aïn El Turck (Oran) par les gardes-côtes. Les clandestins, à bord d’une embarcation de fortune, tentaient de rejoindre l’autre rive de la Méditerranée lorsqu’ils ont été repérés par une patrouille des gardes-côtes. Les ‘harraga‘ ont été reconduits au port et remis aux services de la gendarmerie. Avant-hier, un groupe de 16 candidats à l’émigration clandestine ont été interceptés à 40 km, au nord de Cap Falcon. Depuis le 1er octobre, plusieurs tentatives d’émigration clandestine ont été déjouées par les forces navales, au large d’Oran, de Mostaganem et de Béni-Saf. En une seule journée, les unités d’intervention avaient, pour rappel, intercepté 85 ‘harraga‘ à bord de 5 embarcations dont 4, au large d’Oran.

The European Union might have to postpone the launch of a mission tasked with training Libyan coastguard officers as part of an operation to curb refugee trafficking, diplomats say.

A European diplomat, speaking on condition of anonymity, told AFP on Sunday that the commanders of the EU naval mission known as Operation Sophia “are still waiting for the list” of 100 initial candidates for the training program, which was initially planned to commence by the end of September or mid-October.

The African migrant trail via Libya is far more dangerous than the Syrian route via Greece.

Ever since the Syrian refugee crisis hit international headlines the plight of African migrants in Europe has taken a back seat. Media attention has focused on arrivals via the eastern Mediterranean route – from Turkey to Greece – because of the huge number of arrivals, when in reality the central Mediterranean route via Libya to Italy is by far the deadliest into Europe. According to the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) between 1 January to 28 September 3,054 migrants have died taking it.

BREIL-SUR-ROYA, France — On a recent sunny Sunday, about a dozen young men, women and children sat around a wooden table belonging to Cédric Herrou, a 37-year-old farmer, laughing about who would cook that night. It could have been any family-like gathering in the pastoral setting high in the French Alps, just above the border with Italy. But it was not.

A local hero to some, a scofflaw to others, Mr. Herrou, who was arrested in August, had helped his guests — all migrants from Africa — to cross the border into France illegally. He planned to sneak them to a train station so they could continue their journey. Some might stay in France, but most wanted to get to Britain or Germany.

Les gardes-côtes ont intercepté, hier, un groupe de 16 candidats à l’émigration clandestine, à 40 km, au nord de Cap Falcon (Oran). Les harraga ont embarqué à partir de la plage de Ain El Turck et avaient l’intention de rejoindre les côtes espagnoles, toutefois, une vedette des gardes-côtes a permis d’avorter cette tentative d’émigration clandestine. Ils ont été reconduits au port d’Oran.

An Eritrean migrant died and his wife was injured in an accident involving a British car driver on a motorway near the French port of Calais.

The pair were knocked down on an interchange where dozens of migrants were reportedly trying to climb on to lorries.

Some of the migrants then set upon the British driver, officials say.

France has said it will soon close down a camp at Calais where up to 10,000 migrants are staying.

The migrants and refugees are hoping to cross the English Channel and include at least 900 unaccompanied minors.

Last month a teenaged Afghan boy was killed while trying to climb on to a lorry heading to the port on its way to the Channel Tunnel.

Bei einem Brand auf Chios sind mehrere Flüchtlingsunterkünfte zerstört worden. Die Situation auf den Inseln der Ägäis ist desolat. Bei einem Krisentreffen in Athen wurde jetzt ein Aktionsplan aufgestellt.

Ein Feuer hat auf der griechischen Insel Chios am Samstag mindestens sechs von acht Bungalows zerstört, die für die Unterbringung von Flüchtlingen und Migranten gedacht waren. Wie die griechische Küstenwache mitteilte, war das Feuer in den frühen Morgenstunden ausgebrochen.

Verletzt wurde dem Bericht zufolge niemand, auch die Ursache des Brandes stand zunächst nicht fest. Drei Migranten seien festgenommen worden, weil sie während der Löscharbeiten Feuerwehrleute mit Steinen beworfen hätten.

Ein Flüchtlingsboot mit mehr als einhundert Menschen an Bord ist nordwestlich der griechischen Insel Milos entdeckt worden.

Wie der Fernsehsender Skai berichtete, wurde das Schiff von der griechischen Küstenwache in den Hafen geschleppt. Erst gestern war ein Flüchtlingsboot vor der Halbinsel Peloponnes aufgetaucht. Beide Orte liegen weit abseits der üblichen Route von der Türkei zu den griechischen Inseln der Ostägäis.

Die Behörden vermuten, dass es sich dabei um Menschen aus Nordafrika handelt, die nach Italien übersetzen wollen.
