Fears grow of expanding campaign against government opponents as leading activist from 2011 revolution is arrested
Egyptian activists fear the country’s new army-backed regime will follow a crackdown on Islamist allies of the former president, Mohamed Morsi, with a wider campaign against those opposed to both Morsi and the military.
It follows the arrest of one of the leading activists from the 2011 revolution on charges of attempting to bring down the government, and the news – published in Egypt’s flagship state newspaper, and then later denied – that 35 other prominent secular activists are also under investigation.
Haitham Mohamedein, a high-profile lawyer and key figure in Egypt’s labour and revolutionary movements, was released without charge after being arrested and taken to a police court on Friday. The state prosecution office also denied to the Guardian on Sunday that any of the 35 other activists were at risk of legal proceedings.

This trend is due to a lack of proper policing since 2011 and the chronic absence of viable housing policies.In the last 30 years, Cairo’s “informal quarters,” sprawling settlements of unlicensed brick and steel-reinforced concrete dwellings, have grown by orders of magnitude. In the 1980s, the roads from central Cairo west to the Pyramids were flanked by fields. Now the city crowds so close to its icons it nearly overwhelms them. De Catane et Lamezia (Italie), égyptiens renvoyés à l’enfer
Le 11 aout un bateau arrive sur les cotes calabraises. Le 19 aout un bateau chargé de 100 migrants arrive au large de Catane (Sicile/Italie). Dans les deux cas les égyptiens sont identifiés et séparés des autres. Les associations dénoncent le fait que ils n’aient pas pu faire une demande d’asile et ils ont été rapatriés avec des vols de ligne en 24 heures? Le motif? On continue à appliquer un accord secret de 2007 signé avec le gouvernement de Mubarak. Même maintenant que une guerre civile est en cours.

Deux sont les expulsions collectives vers l’Égypte. La première, le 12 aout. 45 égyptiens expulsés de l’aéroport de Lamezia (Calabria/Italie). La deuxième huit jours plus tard. Les associations humanitaires, CIR et Bordeline Sicile dénoncent que 10 migrants ont été embarqués sur un vol Egyptair de l’aéroport de Catane. Le 19 aout un boat-people avec 100 personnes à bord a été vu au large de Aci Castello (pas loin de Catane) et il a été amené jusqu’au port de Catane. A bord des ressortissants d’Egypte et Syrie, dont 17 femmes et 11 enfants. „Nous avons navigué pour 7 jours3 – raconte un des migrants du bateau „Certains entre nous ont perdu des membres de leurs familles après la tombé de Morsi.“
Grocers protest shortage in supply commodities
„Dozens of subsidized supply goods distributors staged a protest on Sunday outside the Food Industries Holding Company over the delivery delays. The protesters said only 40 percent of allocated supplies were given to them. They also complained of oil and rice shortages. Oil shortage reached 60 percent compared to 40 percent for rice, the protesters said.
Walid al-Sheikh, head of the union of grocers that distributes supply goods, said the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade did not notify its departments of the August deadline when supplies should have have been distributed to grocers.

„When news emerged that Hosni Mubarak was to be released from prison, I joked that Egypt was actually in the throes of a grand plot to punish the Egyptian people for having dared to topple their dictator. Part of this ‚conspiracy‘ was the planting of provocateurs –Mohammed Hussein Tantawi, Mohammed Morsi and Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi – to lead the country off a cliff.
