Die italienische Küstenwache war von dem Sinken des Boots und von dem Überlebensversuch an dem Thunfischkäfig informiert worden. – Im Laufe des Wochenende wurden 900 Boat-people von der italienischen Küstenwache gerettet. Unter ihnen waren Frauen, Kinder und Babys. Viele der Flüchtlinge kommen aus Eritrea.

Seven drown in Italy sea crossing clinging to tuna cage
Seven immigrants drowned on Sunday during an attempted crossing to Italy by gripping on to a large tuna fishing cage towed by a trawler, according to witnesses from among the 95 people rescued by the coast guard.
Italy’s coast guard rescued the migrants off the shores of Sicily after reports came in of dozens of people clinging desperately to the tuna cage out at sea.
Survivors later told rescue workers that seven people with them had drowned after they had tried to scrabble on board the trawler when the crew cut the line linking the boat with the cage.
Witnesses said the victims had been pushed back into the sea, Italian media said.
Rescuers pulled more than 250 people in several boats to safety on Sunday, as the number of people who landed in Italy over the weekend rose to over 900.
More than 100 men from Eritrea were taken to Lampedusa island off the Sicilian coast on Sunday, along with a further 55 people from a different boat, some of whom had jumped into the water at the sight of the coast guard.
On Saturday, some 690 immigrants were rescued from boats with engine trouble or dinghies that had begun taking on water, including a baby girl born during the crossing from Turkey.
Good weather has raised fears of increased numbers of migrants trying to reach Italy by sea.

Sept immigrants clandestins qui tentaient de gagner l’Italie se sont noyés dimanche au large de la Sicile en s’agrippant à une cage tirée par un thonier, selon des témoins qui faisaient partie d’un groupe de 95 personnes secourues par les garde-côtes italiens.
Les garde-côtes se sont portés au secours des migrants après avoir reçu des informations sur des dizaines de personnes tentant désespérément de s’accrocher à une cage destinée à la pêche au thon.
Les survivants ont raconté aux secouristes que sept personnes qui tentaient de s’agripper à la cage se sont noyées lorsque l’équipage du chalutier a sectionné le cable qui la reliait au bateau.
Des témoins ont affirmé que les sept immigrants ont ainsi été repoussés vers la mer, selon les médias italiens.
Dimanche, les secouristes ont recueilli plus de 250 personnes qui se trouvaient à bord de plusieurs bateaux. Au cours du weekend, le nombre de personnes ayant atteint l’Italie s’est élevé à plus de 900.
Plus d’une centaine d’hommes originaires de l’Erythrée ont été transférés dimanche sur l’île de Lampedusa, au large de la Sicile, ainsi que 55 autres personnes qui naviguaient à bord d’un autre bateau et dont certaines ont sauté dans l’eau en apercevant les garde-côtes.
Samedi, quelque 690 immigrants qui se trouvaient à bord d’embarcations en difficulté ont été secourues, dont une petite fille née au cours de la traversée depuis le Turquie.
Les bonnes conditions climatiques actuelles font craindre aux autorités une hausse des arrivées sur les côtes italiennes d’immigrants clandestins.(Afp)
