For months, intense clashes have been ravaging different Libyan cities and putting the lives of thousands at risk. Recently, the violence has not spared the safety of Libyan Red Crescent Society staff and volunteers, who were forced to relocate to safer areas where they can continue carrying out their humanitarian activities.
The Libyan Red Crescent Society remains one of the very few humanitarian organisations that have been active on ground since the onset of the crisis in the country.
Earlier in November, the Libyan Red Crescent Society’s General Secretariat was forced to flee its offices in the Sidi Hussein region in the city of Benghazi because of ongoing nearby clashes, and move temporarily to the Benghazi Medical Centre.

ATHENS, Greece (AP) — A Greek navy frigate was towing a crippled freighter with hundreds of migrants on board through gale-force winds and high waves to safety on the southern island of Crete on Wednesday, a day after it suffered engine failure in international waters.
The 77-meter (250-foot) Baris cargo ship carrying some 700 people trying to enter Europe was being towed at a speed of about three knots (3.4 miles, 5.5 kilometers per hour) toward the port town of Ierapetra in southern Crete. It is expected to arrive late Wednesday.

Veranstaltung zu Kontinuitäten der mörderischen EU-Migrationspolitik
Zehntausende sind bereits im Mittelmeer ertrunken, erstmals werden viele Tote auch aus dem Schwarzen Meer gemeldet. Trotzdem setzt die EU-Migrationspolitik weiterhin auf Abschottung und Abschreckung. Neue Grenzanlagen zwingen Geflüchtete zu noch riskoreicheren Routen, Kooperationen mit Libyen, Ägypten und Tunesien sollen Abfahrten schon an den Küsten Nordafrikas verhindern. Die EU-Grenzagentur FRONTEX erhält immer mehr Kompetenzen, die Seenotrettung gehört aber weiterhin nicht zu ihren Aufgaben.
Die Aufrüstung der EU-Außengrenzen wird vorwiegend von Italien und Spanien betrieben. Deutschland und Frankreich fordern mehr Migrationskontrolle innerhalb der EU: Die Regierungen setzten durch, dass bei einem Anstieg irregulärer Migration wieder Kontrollen der Binnengrenzen eingeführt werden können. Polizeien aus Österreich und Deutschland haben im November erstmals gemeinsame Patrouillen in Eisenbahnzügen in Norditalien gestartet.
In der Veranstaltung erläutern wir, wie die EU-Migrationspolitik der letzten 20 Jahre in neue Operationen zur Migrationsabwehr gipfelt. Auch die Kämpfe und individuellen Strategien gegen die Festung Europa werden dargestellt.

One of the missing is a 2 year old little girl. In the artikel one of the survivors said that the facilitator who had forced them by gun to embark the small boat, forbid them later to put on a rescue light and call on the fone for help when the boat was full of water …
We are trying to get more information by getting in contact with the survivors.
The boat was a small fiber glass boat (usually these boats are for 4-5 people max) that was not in good conditon Some of the survivors claimed that they didnt want to get in the boat but they were forced to do so by the smaglers. Very soon while they were still in Turkish sea waters the engine of the boat stopped and water started to come in. They tried to take the water out (probably they tried to call for help) but in one point the boat captisized and people fell in the sea.

The pilot initiative on return was discussed originally in the JHA Council in March 2014 as a Dutch initiative proposing to use the leverage, available in overall bilateral relations with particular third countries, in order to improve the return rate of irregular migrants from the EU Member States to those countries. Following this discussion, in its June 2014 conclusions on return, the JHA Council endorsed: „launching an initiative on a pilot project concerning a number of selected third- countries of origin […] [ in order] to mobilise all adequate means in the framework of the more for more principle, to stimulate the selected pilot third countries to comply with their international obligations, to improve return rate“.
