Yesterday a group of refugees – recognized as such by the UNHCR – from the Choucha camp headed by public transport from the city of Ben Guerdane to Tunis in order to visit the offices of UNHCR Tunis. This is due to the fact that they do not accept integration programs in Tunisia offered to them. Around the city of Gabes, they arrived at a roundabout. A policeman boarded the bus and told them they could not go to Tunis. Refugees, including women, children and elderly patients refused to get off the bus, focusing on the reasons why they wanted to go to the capital. Despite this, the police insulted them. A group of men was beaten and forced to ride in a van back to camp Choucha. Other people, mostly women and the elderly, have refused to get into the van. They are always at the roundabout with the police.

Hier un groupe de réfugiés statutaires – soit reconnus comme tels par le HCR – du camp de Choucha se sont dirigés en transport public de la ville de Ben Guerdane vers Tunis dans le but de se rendre aux bureaux du HCR Tunis. Cela en raison du fait qu’ils n’acceptent pas les programmes d’insertion en Tunisie qui leurs sont proposés. Aux alentours de la ville de Gabes, ils sont arrivés à un rond point. Un policier est monté dans le bus et leur a dit qu’ils ne pouvaient se rendre à Tunis. Les réfugiés, dont des femmes, des enfants et des personnes âgées et malades ont refusé de descendre du bus, insistant sur les raisons pour lesquelles ils souhaitaient se rendre à la capitale. Malgré ce, la police les a insultés. Un groupe d’homme a été frappé et forcé de monter dans un fourgon pour retourner au camp de Choucha. Les autres personnes, majoritairement des femmes et des personnes âgés, ont refusé de monter dans les fourgons. Ils se trouvent toujours sur place avec la police.
